I will be taking my son and possibly my nephew to some zoos/reptile zoos this year. Wondering what peoples favorite individual snakes to view in person are. Does anywhere have a 10ft+ polylepis? A 15ft King? The egyptian cobra at Jacksonville Zoo and forest cobra at Philadelphia Zoo look impressive in photos and videos but I hate to base it on that. How bout a large siamensis? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

St Louis has some great snakes on display. mangs, Feas, Armenian, (maybe 8 ft. blk. mamba) Tuatara and a slew of others. Great Zoo and a fabulous herp collection started by the greats- Marlin Perkins, Charlie Hoessle and now Jeff Ettling.
Of course many of the zoos have great collections. Some are classic "cookie cutter" i.e. the collect all 10 set. Others have a great mix.

The best reptile collection that I've personally seen on display has been at the Cape Fear Serpentarium in Wilmington, North Carolina. They have a few large D.polylepis on display. gigantic Bothrops asper, huge Bushmasters, a PNG Taipan, Boomslangs, Large WA Gaboons, large King cobra that I think is 14-15ft. For Naja they had siamensis, nivea, naja, annulata, and melanoleuca the last time I was there. There were several other snakes that I can't recall right now, but it's worth it just to see the Bushmasters and monstrous Terciopelo. Dean does feeding shows with several of the snakes, including the Black-head bushmasters. -Jamie

Cincinatti, San Diego & Zoo Atlanta come to mind as nice collections. Lets not forget some of the non-AZA Zoo's too, like: Catoctin Zoo & Wildlife Park & Kentucky Reptile Zoo. Catoctin has the largest Polylepis I've seen on exhibit.

Have been to St Louis and Cincinnati on multiple occasions. Both are great. Also hit Rob Carmichael's WDC this spring. Really nice collection. Thanks to everyone for their input.
Al,
What do you think of Catoctin overall? I have seen both good and bad reviews. We are probably gonna end up heading east. Philadelphia Zoo, Luray Zoo ( anybody been there?) and some others.
Thanks again everybody.

You will not be disappointed with the jax zoo even though the reptile exhibits are not huge. I have heard that there is an 18' king at a reptile zoo in South FL that is very impressive but I have not been there to see it. The St. Augustine alligator farm is also worth a trip.

Kentucky Reptile Zoo has both snakes on exhibit and venom milking show for the public to watch. I haven't been there yet, I have seen all of their videos on Youtube and definitely want to visit next year.
In the same line, Reptile World Serpenterium in St. Cloud, Florida also has many snakes on display and a venom extraction show. I have been there many times and enjoyed each visit.
Both places are large professional venom extraction operations that supply many researchers with venom.

More information:
Reptile World Sepentarium's web site lists an 18 foot king cobra. http://www.reptileworldserpentarium.com/
And I neglected to mention Discovery Wildlife Center in Lake Forest, Illinois. Although it's mambas or king cobras aren't exceptionally large, Rob Carmichael has built the largest collection of live rattlesnakes on public display in the U.S. Many different rattlesnake species. Lots of other species too. It's also not too far from Six Flags over Great America and the great city of Chicago so you could plan a really nice vacation in the area.
