Does anyone know what criteria they are using to classify Loveridge elapoides? Are they using Karyotype and/or meristics, or how are they determining this? The reason I ask is that a superficial look at the head scales, and this snake seems to be some sort of Micrurus, and I was just wondering (considering that snakes are frequently reclassified and renamed) if anyone knew exactly what factors are used to determine this species.
Thank you for your help,
Kelly

Thanks for the help. That paper has alot of information, but it gives me a much better idea of what they are looking at when they classify a species and what can go wrong (pseudogenes?)that could result in revising the classification.
