Hey guys, one of my corn snakes is gravid... very gravid. She shed the pre-lay shed 15 days ago, and still has not laid.
Is this normal?
I've only had a couple clutches of eggs, and they laid only a weeks after the pre-lay shed..
Thanks,
Jon Short

Have you given her an appropriate place to lay her eggs?
Some snakes show a preference for an egglaying chamber. I have successfully used a tuperware container, with a hole twice the diameter of the snake for entry, that is 3/4 filled with damp sphagnum moss.
I have used this method with Gray Ratsnakes, Red Ratsnakes, Bullsnakes and California Kingsnakes. It may not work with all egglayers but it has for everything I have tried so far.
Good luck.

Jon, keep an eye on her. There is always the chance that there could be a infertile egg mass that is blocking the passage of the live young.
Only way to know for sure would be a Xray image.
You might try to palpate her underside, and gently look for soft and squishy signs of live young, and look for any sign of a harder, more rubbery mass near the vent that might be causing a blockage.
Or, it could be that she just has a while to go before she has here young.............

OOps,
I thought you were talking about the gravid boa.
But, the same thing applies for a egg laying snake.
Palpate it for eggs, and for any rubbery masses that might be non-calcified eggs that might be causing a blockage.
Best Regards
