I'm in north GA, I managed to get out for a little while on Tues. I saw 2 black rats, a dekays and a red-bellied snake. I wasn't out long, I figured not bad for the 1st time out. A nice change from this long winter! Lots more to come hopefully. Take care, Marty

Nothing. Not a thing, unless you count the local drunk. Now that the daytime temps have climbed up into the '80s, hopefully that will bring the snakes out soon enough. I HAVE heard frogs, though, for the very first time in probably over a decade. It was so dry here for so many years, there wasn't enough standing water for frogs to breed in. This winter pretty much brought an end to the drought, for now, anyway.

Last weekend raking leaves from a flower bed in OKC I uncovered a very nice little Dekays. He tried to burrow his head into my fist -- too much daylight I expect. He is back in the bed, and with 80s all week presumably doing well and hunting worms.

Up here, garters start moving out of the snow on the first warm snowy day in mid to late March. Thankfully, though, I got to head to Louisiana to visit colleges for my daughter and while I don't know the area well, I did find some nice swamps to poke around during my 3 hour "daddy along herping time": 2 cottons, ribbon, midland water (I think...not well versed on nerodia down there), racer, many turtles and my favorite find was watching a large gar catch and woof down a bass...pretty impressive.

Yellow Ratsnakes, Black Racers, Peninsula Ribbon Snakes, Florida Water Snakes, Softshell Turtles, Yellow-bellied Sliders, Brown Anoles, Green Anoles and yesterday a HUGE Broadhead Skink. Things are definitely moving on the Florida/Georgia border.
