Thanks,

In light of recent events, there may be little or nothing we can do. It is getting increasingly difficult to defend what is to most people indefensible. What should be banned are venomoids, but that won't happen. (Meanwhile Bill, before anything does take effect, do you know where I can find a nice common cantil, A. b. bilineatus? I need it for display, so an adult is preferred).

I agree with Fred. We (as a community of hobbyists although I also wear the hat on the other side of the fence as well) have shot ourselves in the foot too many times and have proven that we just cannot police ourselves. I hate to say it but I really don't blame the knee jerk reaction taking place from law makers (as much as I disagree with them). The writing is on the wall and its probably just a matter of time that the keeping of venomous herps by the private sector will be illegal in just about every state. I sure hope I'm wrong but the herp community is apathetic, not on the same page, and we don't project a positive or professional image. How can we blame those who are deciding our fates? It's too bad we can't be as well organized and funded as the animal rights groups who are behind much of these initiatives. I'm probably going to get flamed for these statements but all you have to do is look at the news. I just hope that this doesn't creep into all areas of the herp hobby but we're seeing it every day with python bans, local ordinances going into affect that even outlaw green anolis lizards. It's really nutty. We have some great advocacy groups fighting for everyone's rights but as a whole, we've gotta get our acts together.

Everybody needs to start learning the secret handshake now...if Pennsylvania falls the hobby may be doomed.

Lets look at the big picture ,if they outlaw the m-16 next it will be the shotgun.Give them an inch and they will take a mile. If they outlaw the private sector it they will eventually hit the institutions and zoos.I have been around for quite a few years,I have seen carelessness on both sides most institutions may front as if they are upstanding,it may not be as it seems...Both sides are at fault ,and if everyone cant find a way to interact it will only make it easier for the power crazed politicians to do what they want.It seems that the fighting is getting more and more out of hand. As a reminder many zoos are being watched by animal rights groups that have some pull.So let me say one more thing from a neutral position, when it comes to reptiles as a whole I think the private sector is doing a far better job on captive management and propagation, soif the private sector falls it will get worse for the zoos Chris

Fred, he was responding to a post made by Tommy Blake, our local 'venomoid troll'.. Tommy's post was removed, and that is why it seems so out-of-place.

Tommy posted the exact same garbage on the
'Ontario is clamping down on exotic regulations' thread.
That post is still up.

Thanks guys, yes, I had posted in regards to Tommy Blake. I'm not one who follows any forums or call my stuff pets as Tommy was trying to rant about. I'm also not trying to cause any trouble. I just want the amendment to the bill stopped and will try and help as a call is in to meet with senator richard alloway II. I'm usually just a quite guy and think we all need to ban together as reptile keepers to stop a step that takes away our rights in what is suppose to be a free nation. Buzztail or any moderator please remove the previous post I had made as I didn't know Tommy and I am not re-tracking what I said to him but, as to not confuse people. The one to be angry at is Jesse Rothacker who has forgotten friends reptile sanctuary in Lancaster,PA. He and the senator listed above are the only 2 involved on this issue. Have a good one follow hot keepers and non-hot keepers.

Thanks John, for the clarification and apologies to Bill - that Tommy Blake guy could easily get me ranting too, and I'd say he's deserving of all the colorful names you can throw at him. I figured there must have been a post missing....
