They take up very little space. Are very cheap to maintain. You don't need to keep av on hand for all ssp. Also many states don't require permits and of the ones that do they are usually very inexpensive. I'm more worried about getting bit by a dog or mauled by a deer than taking a bite from one of my hots. Propper training and common sense are the key to not having an accident. Besides they don't shed or deficate on my carpet or rugs and they don't tear up my furniture as well as primarily odorless if you maintain the environment. All in all the closest thing to a perfect pet especially since you also don't have to feed the everyday like almost every other pet on the market. It's just an aquired taste much like a good single malt scotch. Happy holidays!

Why do people keep dogs? why keep gold fish? why keep cats?why paint? them main reason is because we love or at least like it. I have a healthy respect and love for my timbers . I love to observe them to learn more about them.i'm involved in trying to save them from all the snake haters who want to make the species extinct. If there kept in a humane, safe and not taking them from the wild there's no harm execpt to the keeper if he gets careless

In my experience, the people who ask why keep them are the ones who will never get it. All the reasons in the world won't satisfy them or make them think that what we do has a place in society.
That said, if you can show your proficiency and expertise and be a good ambassador for the hobby through your own actions, your critics will become fewer and fewer.
In my humble opinion, the best answer to 'why keep venomous snakes' is:
"Because I am knowledgeable, I love to do it, and I can do it safely and legally."
