We really need to write an article about this topic since we get so many questions about it.
Venom production these days is a very high tech venture. Venom must be extracted in sterile conditions using a method of both extraction and storage (freeze drying, lyophilizing) that are approved by the laboratory that is buying it. Usually, the pharmaceutical companies (your market) will have to approve your facility, extraction method and storage process before they buy any venom from you. You can also look to spend tens of thousands of dollars purchasing the equipment you will need to store the venom after you've milked it. They want the purest product they can get.
The biggest thing to point out here is that there is no shortage of any snake venoms. There are even several medications made from or based on snake venom and there has especially been a lot of research done with it lately.
Selling rattlesnake venom to medical research facilities for large amounts of money is an urban myth that is chased by many a soul. I answer 3 or 4 emails a month requesting info about it. The only hope I could give you is that you might try volunteering at a successfully operating venom lab to get an inside look at what is required. But that would probably require that you relocate.

Hi Chris,
Just wondering, since we're on the subject of rattlesnake av here, where does Protherics do their milking? I seem to recall hearing that their labs, indeed all of their facilities, are located somewherein the UK.
CHeers,
Roger
