First things first, find a mentor, it's safer for you and the snake. Second, make sure hots are legal where you live, not just state, but local/city laws as well.
Third, try to find a doctor that will be a sponsor for av, the step on acquiring permits are in the file library. Last, but not least, buy captive-bred animals instead of taking them from the wild. Unless it's completely necessary....ie.you want to breed a snake that isn't captive bred that often, like asian vine snakes for example. If you want to breed copperheads or rattlers, most are readily captive bred, the ones that aren't, you won't be able to take from the wild legally anyway. The most important thing to keeping hots is making sure you, the snake, and the public are safe.
Make sure your snakes CANNOT escape, they are called snakes for a reason, and can free themselves quite readily if given any small hole, or opportunity. One mistake can be dangerous to you, the snake, and people around you, not to mention for others who have the
PRIVELEDGE to keep these animals. Keep one thing in mind also, the snake doesn't have the luxury of choosing it's owners, if you're going to keeps hots, don't buy cheap for the sake of saving money. If you can't buy the proper equipment and housing for these snakes, you shouldn't keep them.
Good luck and be safe.
