I have worked with venomous animals in the past at zoos, and removing problem snakes from bad areas, i have not been bitten. I also grew up around horses and spend a lot of time on a farm. Would i be predaposed to a complication from antivenom if i was bitten, and what if i had the antivenom and was bitten again in the future?

Hi Angel:
This is a very complex issue best answered by one of the venom doc's from one of the societies link site under snakebite information catagory.
Here's what I know from research and personal experience.
People treated multiple times with antivenom need more AV to treat a envenomation because like the venom the AV is made of proteins to which the body reacts with an immune response. This process neutralizes the antivenom. This is also why people that innoculate themselves with doses of venom; to build this tolerence to venom. The body also releases huge amounts of histomine setting the dangerious allergic reaction in motion.
The funny thing is you could not be sensitive to say "peanuts or strawberrys" today and eat one tomorrow and have a life threatining Allergic reaction. Just one of those mysteries of life.
Some venom researchers are allergic to the venom itself because of repeated exposures, as well as the venoms nasty physiological properties.
As for a personal note in 1974 I received 6 units of Wyeth Crotalid AV (Captive C. horridus bite) and had a nice delayed serum reacton. I am not worried if I need to receive AV today because generally speaking with what I keep now, there is not option. The doc's would pre-treat with Sol-Medrol and give the AV and be ready for the worst.
Since 1974 I've ridden and been around lots of horses with no adverse reaction. I currently have two that I keep and care for daily.
