I have been involved in the collection of legal venomous reptiles for the past thirty years or so. I was informed yesterday that Delta Airlines will no longer be accepting venomous shipments due to new security regulations. Does anyone know of other legal methods. I make several shipments per year of about 50 legally permitted rattlesnakes. I hope someone can help. Thanks Thomas L. Bentz

I called my Delta counter and it seems you are correct. They are no longer shipping venomous and the reason given is liability to their employees. If anyone has any more info please post it here. This could effectively shut down the entire venomous industry.

I just called my local Delta counter and checked the main Delta website and their DASH website and their news website, nothing mentioned about it, though it may not be considered important enough to mention it. The guy that works at the hub did not know anything of it, but said he would inquire to the company and would let me know if I called tomorrow. I do hope this is not the case.

Northwest Airlines ships venomous species with less hassle or investigation than Delta. They may have changed as well so you might call and check. Last year you had to have your snakes bagged in a mesh-type bag and leave the container open for inspection when you arrived. They also have several rules about number of specimens per species, etc. in a given size container. I had to get everything faxed to me, I found nothing on the web.

The Whole Poop
Got the whole deal on the Delta jokers. The regional manager got a bug somewhere unmentionable and banned all reptle shipments in this whole district (south west area NM, TX,AZ,CO). The BIG office is taking care of this "overzealousness" of their district manager as he WAY exceded his authority. This is not the only district affected so call your local counter, so these yahoos will get the message. This has a big impact on my business and NW might not be an option as the people are not in touch with their own policies. I am also located in a bad spot for airlines and Delta ,so far, is my only option.
Remember folks this is how things start, without us knowing one person exceded his authority and could have started an avalanche of knee-jerk responses. Please call your local counters and make sure this putz didn't affect you.
