Does anyone know how many venomous snakebites have occured this year so far and what the average is per year? Of the average, how many are fatal? Thanks for your help.

It's hard to say exactly how many deaths there are world wide. Many go unreported, especally in 3rd world countries. The best of estimates is still a mere guess. In the US, it's usually somewhere between 8 and 12, give or take a couple either way. The Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) is the snake most often responsible. The most common site of a bite is on the hand, which tells you something about how it happened. As often as not, alcohol is involved.
