Hello to all,
I hope this isn't a dumb question, but I am wondering if anyone knows of any gloves that are punture proof to venomous snakes? Any info would be most appreciated.
Thanks
vette

I've done quite a bit of testing of the gloves from Midwest (www.tongs.com) and have been absolutely thrilled by them. They have stopped numerous strikes by elapids and vipers alike. A big elapid can go through if given thirty seconds to chew on it.... however, you are unlikely to leave your hand in the glove that long so no worries.
Cheers,

Brian,
Which Midwest gloves did you test with? They offer two types, both are leather with balistic kevlar linings, but one of them has steel staples.

I believe that Bryan was using just the basic gloves, without the staples. They are designed for the glancing strike and as he said, a large elapid will be able to chew through given enough time. I have a pair myself, though I've not had occasion to use them. (Nor shall I any time soon.)
Hey Bryan, have you tested the gloves on those gabbies that you were talking about? Also, why couldn't the king get a good bite at them, in your opinion?
Cheers
Roger

I'll be getting the gabbies and other snakes in after I am done gallavanting around the States in Aug/Sep (and yes, I will be at the Daytona show).
I have both types of gloves and use the stapled ones for work with gilas and big goannas.
As for why the king didn't go through, it was because I set the situation up so perfectly with the monocled (really pressing the latex glove against the inside of the MW glove). It was only under this sit that the monocled went through, in a more normal sit it was unable to go through nor was the king. Basically, it would take a big elapid a number of seconds to work through. Only a complete idiot would leave their hand in there so long ;-)
Cheers,
BGF
