Description: This profile shows why it's called a "humpnosed viper". A small species, it is very twitchy and reminds me a bit of Pigmy rattlesnakes in its behavior. Normally found in leaf litter, it is responsible for a large number of bites and causes extensive local tissue damage. This is significant because the people most often bitten rely on agricultural living to sustain them, most often working in knee deep water in rice paddies.
