Good for many snakes but not great for small snakes (the throat is too wide. But be warned you must NOT pin with it!

Nice!

Just received mine yesterday. I opted for the smaller hook, wish there were an "in between" size, too. I promptly removed the other stuff I was carrying in my Jeep, and think the collapso will work nicely for road hunting locally. It certainly stores more conveniently and closer at hand.

Best collapsible Hook ever made!
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months

I just received this hook and I was impressed with the construction and materials used in this product. I have a collapsible hook that I bought at a local reptile expo and compared to this it is a piece of junk ( it really is a piece of junk). I chose the red end color and it is visually pleasing. In my humble opinion, this is the best collapsible hook in the world and I (just a fellow herper) would recomend it to anyone.

Have Hook...Will Travel...
|

I have had this hook for over six years now and it has withstood everything I have used it for. The only wear on the hook out of six plus years of use is on the tip of the hook itself; yet it's very minor wear. So far it has stood the test of time. I have used it on all types and sizes of snakes with much success. On heavy bodied snakes I would extend the hook an inch or two shy of full extention. This prevented the bending associated with hooking heavy bodied snakes( See following URL: http://www.venomousreptiles.org/libraries/showfilepage/1811?offset=50). Also with the groove that runs down lengthwise of the hook itself has prevented any rotation that is usually observed in other collaspible hooks. As already stated by others; I don't reccomend this hook for pinning. I have found only one draw back to this hook... That would be using it with elapids or aboreal species. They tend to use the tighting rings as anchor points to prevent them from being removed/released from the hook.
Overall it is the best collaspible hook I have used, and has become my most used hook, and packs/travels well; due to it's collasping ability. Dana and the rest of the staff at Midwest really raised the bar with this hook.

Excellent!!

This has proven to be one of my most useful hooks.
I used its telescoping ability to catch Brown Tree Snakes from the tops of the fences in Guam and all of the species of rattlesnakes of San Diego County in California. It travels very well taking up a minimum amount of space. I cannot recommend a better collapsible hook. It really shouldn't be used for pinning due to its collapsible nature.

THE space-efficient hook!
|
Time owned: 0 to 3 months
|
I haven't had my collapsible hook long but it is very space efficient. I will be taking it across the country and then on with me to several foreign herp hot spots such as Singapore, Okinawa, and Australia. During my travels, space is always an issue. It is great that Midwest provides such a dependable product that I can take with me.
I will post further reviews of this hook from the countries I use it in.

Excellent pinning tool!
|
Time owned: 3 to 6 months
|
This hook has actually turned into my favorite pinning tool. I like it better for this use that the actual pinning tool made by the same company, which I consider too narrow to be of much use. I also use it at about half extension to support heavy bodied snakes since I like a short hook. It's a good field tool, nice and light and easy to carry, and also a great convenience in the snake room because of its variable length and use as a nice soft pinner.
