There was an extremely serious envenomation from this species in St Louis about 6 years ago from one fang. Multiple near complete blood transfusions were needed to help the individual. This species deserves the utmost respect.
Hooking them is much like hooking water until you figure out the behavior some. Even then they are devilish little buggers!
Certainly one worth keeping your fingers out of the mouth.

Sounds like one Hot headed little dude, I have handled some (Agkistrodon piscivorus) with kind of the same deposition. I would think that (Proatheris superciliaris) would be a little more pissy tho. Thanks for the info ya’ll, I will think on this Species and think again, if I fill I can handle working with one, I will invest in one, but im not one to jump into this head first without thinking twice. If I don’t invest in this Species, there are a lot more truly lovely Species to choose from huu? Thanks again ya’ll.......Be safe, Wally

BGF is quite right, I have a particular interest in this species of atheris as well and all of the specimens I have encountered seemed to act exactly like the majority of my cantils, nuts. Beautiful animals though, just hard to talk to I guess lol.
