Hi:
You will most likely regret bringing this topic up. It's one of the "hot button" issues that when asked usually creates a furball that get stuck in a whole bunch of throats.
In general, I have heard all these claims too. They are just claims, many requests for them to name the Licensed Vet. that does the proceedure have gone un-answered. Therefore I feel that they are un-true and the operation is done by some backroom butcher.
See the horriors they put these animals through:

Just don't get involved with venomoids!

ahhh..one more point..lest I be taken to task for not answering your question completely.
Cost is really hard to put a finger on. They buy the snakes and do the nasty deed, this comes out to be around $500 for a Juv. Gabby and the surgery. Gabbys run typically less than $100.00 on the open market.
It really just does not add up in my head, since when I take my dog to have it's teeth scaled, or have a wound cleaned up and closed it almost costs me the same amount. These are simple routine proceedures that just take 10 or 15 mins, whereas a complex disection & removal of most of a snakes venom delivery system HAS to take much more time. You just can't go in and rip things out. I really think if it was done by a Vet. it would cost much closer to $1000 or more.
Just my analysis

I always say, If you dont want a venomous snake dont get one. Simple, get a snow corn or something in that class. Do not make the snake suffer just for your amusement and because your not ready for a venomous. This is not an attack on any perticular people. I know this does not answer your question. I just wanted to take the time to say that to people looking at getting venomoids. There are some people that make you sick. People have a passion for the snakes but they butcher them and treat them like crap and then claim that they love them. Look at Crotalus_catcher. I saw a post of his that claims he wants to catch a snake and cook it. How stupid is that.

Damn guys, why don’t you just answer his question. If you want to preach, do it after you have answered. If you have nothing constructive to add, then just keep quite.
Richard Richey from OR is considered to be the tops in the field. I do not know how to contact him. I know a guy in PA who does the work. Email me if you would like his contact info. The price is usually about the cost of the snake. A guy I know sends his to Richey and usually sends him two snakes and get one void back, Richey keeps one to resale for the cost of doing it. Carolina Reptile Exchange is the biggest void dealer that I know of. You can always see what he has on the king snake classifieds.

You are misleading people Al. This was the result of foreign exporters tearing out the fangs to make them easier to bag and ship. They have the snake bite a piece of cloth and then jerk it out. This has nothing to do with venomoid surgery.

I agree that venomoid surgery is cruel. The snake does not deserve to be maimed like that and put on display so that someone can handle it. I would like to rip the intestines out of people that do that to snakes.

Misleading..Chuck.. Not exactly..Abuse is abuse. It seems you support this type of animal abuse...
See this thread what your buddies at the reptile exchange did to this King Corba...I wouldn't do business with them...
If your not part of the solution...your part of the problem..Chuck..

I don’t know what to think about you Al. You blatantly mislead people by posting pictures not germane to the subject, then try to say I am part of some problem? I have seen those pics of that cobra it is not news to me. The guy asked a question about a subject and I gave him all the info he needed, that is it. He asked and I helped. That is what this forum is all about. Its not a place for you to force your believes on the whole community. Frankly your opinions have become devalued to the point I don’t respect much of what you say anymore. I have made my position on voids clear in the past, I don’t have any, but I think people who want them have every right to.
Live and let live…AL
