The funny thing about this whole conversation is that it is all irelavant to anything.
Yall should enjoy life get to know your neighbors and friends & stop restricting yourself from the oppurtunities given and just do what you want as long as the duer takes all responsabilaty and dosn't harm any outside parties.
Fact is every one here will die oneday even me only thing is most folks can't face the facts wheather you die in a car from old age, disease, murder, suicide, drugs, alchohol, drunkdriver, or a snake we all are going to die. Take away the idoit protecton stickers and sighns and let them weed themselves out of the gene pool through their own idiotic mistakes and dont offer them antivenin unless they are willing to pay for it stop felling sorry for dumb asses.
I'll do what I want not hurting anyone Regardles of some make belive govermental system that some do gooden athourity thinks I should abid by thats stricktly his own opinion. I say dont try to stop or suppress me and deffinatley dont tread on me or get in my way. Or I'll give it all back to the giver and then some. You can stop people willing to die for their cause and love in life and Crotalids is mine.
Remember to treat others like you would want to be treated.

One of the greatest reasons why I don't want exotics for at least a good while. I would hate to have a cobra and get tagged but don't even have anti-venin. That is why I just keep native hots since their is a less likely chance of haveing any problem with anti-venin.
I personally do think that their is a lot of zoos and zookeepers that are oposed of people keeping venomous snakes. But I do know one guy who has nothing wrong with keeping gaboons, all sorts of vipers, cobras, and the list can go on and on. But on the other hand he feels that no one should be keeping Mambas or Taipans. He said that they are just to dangerous for private keepers to keep saftly.
I would say out of all the venomous hobbiest on 10% seem fit to keep them. I think there is a big macho thing in a lot of our hobby.
The one thing about Jim Harrison I he thinks he so much greater than everyone else. He thinks that he top s&*t. I have gotten the feeling that he doesn't want hobbiest keeping venomous snakes. Now from what I have read I would say most of the community will disagree except BW and few others. He seems to twist statements around a lot. One minute hes saying this but then the next minute he saying the opposite.
The main reasons for most of these bans are because of unresponsible keepers. I think that lately has been a severe downfall in our community. These stupid individuals who have bushmasters, king cobras, gaboon vipers, and other highly venomous snakes and then they don't get anti-venin in their collection and get taged a die.
Also I think another contributing factor is the dealers who will sell to anybody just to make a few bucks. I was talking to a guy once and he was doing security for a show just like SHHS does for SC shows. Well he saw a person buy a cobra from a dealer then he started to leave the building with the snake and he ask the security guy "How Do I Get This Out of The Bag?" The guy told him and said to be careful. I think most people should not keep cobras and other highly venomous snakes if they can not carry their own anti-venin. The one exception is if you live in South Florida with the Venom 1 anit-venin banks just near their.

Phillip, you have made a good point here. Trying to figure where some people stand in our community, is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. I would rather Keep Natives myself, but I do plane to move to South Mississippi and try and open a small Reptile House. When I do this, I want to be able to Keep and Educate the Public with some of the Exotics. I am hesitant to own some Species, such as Mambas, but this world has so many Species to choose from. If this Law is enacted, it could easily Kill all my Dreams and I would dare to say a lot of others also. Just as a example. I know at least 50 fellow Herpers that want to do the same thing I do. All of this Guys know what their doing and more than half of them have more than 25 years experience with Venomous alone (that’s not including Non-Venomous). What do you think could happen to their Dreams of Educating Kids, Adults and all other walks of life? You know, I have heard of many such Permit ideas, but so fare, none make sense. I think that most of this permit ideas, are a backdoor way, to Tax our Hobby away. I normally don’t get very hot on here, but I have to say that I think Jim don’t want Privet Keepers to have any of the Snakes they adore.......God help us all, if our Government puts their nose were it don’t belong. I think the word for this intrusion is called Big Brother. The Powers that be, seem to think us Poor Common Folks, cant decide for ourselves what’s better in our lives “BIG BROTHER, COME SAVE ME FROM MYSELF PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”.....................Be safe ya’ll, happy herping Wally

Hey,
why move to south mississippi move to north east mississippi.
I think that everybody as made good points and I really dont disagree with anybody, except that there needs to be a all out ban. I think that will start a chain reaction that will include other animals like for example certain dogs. I think that people need some regulation. Lets take in example guns I know people (myself included) That have guns and even if there was a ban on guns they would still have one or two that they would not give up, and that is what will happen if snakes are banned people will still try to keep them and that will cause a whole host of other problems. Problems that I believe will be bigger than the issue at hand.

A permit system would have made much more sense. I have to disagree strongly with Jim on this one.
Jim would have never gotten his start in venomous reptiles had this same ban been in effect when he began collecting. Now that he has established his own credibility, he's effectively closed the same door that he went through many years ago. That's just not right. Everyone that keeps venomous reptiles knows the risks, just as skydivers, scubadivers, mountain climbers and motorcycle riders do. Sure there are risks, but they're mine to take.
Prohibition only stops law abiding people from keeping venomous reptiles. This type of legislation doesn't effect outlaws one bit - the exact people that it's aimed at.
How will it ever be possible for anyone to create a facility similar to Jim's anywhere in Kentucky when it's illegal to take the first step!?! It's a selfish move if you ask me.
a highly disappointed,
Chris Harper

Well I guess as long as he is the man in KY, than it is ok. Permit system is the way to go, not a total ban.

Permit, yes good idea, but at least make the licencing system an actual ability. Like a said in one of my post on here earlier. They tell you that you can get a permit, but when they Pass the blooming Law, it gives them the Power to turn anyone down, even if that person proves that they know what their doing. I see this becoming a possible Ban, in itself. I wonder if we as a community will survive this mess. As a past Keeper that planes to Keep again. This really throws me a curve, I never thought in a Million Years, I would be seeing this crewed act being pondered within our own selves. Guess things slap you occasionally huuu? Just another wake up call, we cant decide anything for our selves. Just the fact that the “Big G “ dose it for us. If this is to be the fate of our Hobby, so be it...........Be safe ya’ll, happy herping Wally
