i'm sure most that emailed her got the same email i did about the "explanation" coming up in sundays edition of the athens courier-journal here in limestone county, alabama..........i'm the "gentleman" who "called her (tashia) ignorant and foolish" but in reality, i called her actions ignorant and foolish.....only because i can take 5 minutes and spend on the internet and learn about any one animal i want to.....i'm not a bird person, but i had a pretty bird in my back yard one day and had never seen it before.....i spent a few minutes digging up info and found all i could want and then some....first identifying it, then learning everything else about it....it's not hard to do
i also know first hand how people are around here.....this story got more publicity than did the guy who left his twins in the car for 6 hours the other day, eventually killing the girl because he forgot about them.......
for the most part, people around here hate snakes.....chalk it up to ignorance but also to the fact that this is the bible belt.....the good book says snakes are evil (some interpret it that way).....i asked her boss "kelly" to PLEASE realize that herpers have it hard enough anyway, and that every bad thing knocks the hobby down a notch......around here, you're crazy if you like snakes......

Ricky, yes most people in this County consider Herpers to be crazy loons, but I do not believe it to be entirely because we live in the Bible Belt. As we all know there are plenty of people in this world that are terrified of Snakes, but all of it dose not have to do with Religious Beliefs. I would dare to venture, that most people that are scared, are not Religious Believers. I see it more as a lack of Education. For example, my Dad is a Baptist Preacher. I have been Keeping Reptiles sense I was a Boy. At first he was scared stiff by my Animals, then he started coming in and watching them Shed and Eat. The curiosity of seeing their Habits, helped diminish the fear. I also have a lot of Friends that are Christians, they are not scared of, or even think the Animals are the Devil. Just because a person is a Bible Believer, dose in no way mean they hate Snakes. By saying this, we are no better than those who are out to stop us. I call it the Blame Game, Blame those that hate Snakes, for the lose of our Keeping Abilities. By the way, I am a Christian and I love Snakes. They are the most fascinating creatures on Earth. I would say that you need to Educate yourself on the Facts...................Be safe ya’ll, Happy Herping Wally

my grandparents hate snakes because of what happened in the bible with adam, eve and satan.....i personally see the bible as a collection of stories, much like aesop's fables.....i'm not religious at all....but the rest of my family is either baptist or catholic, and the older generation seems to reference the bible concerning snakes, saying they're on their belly because they're being punished, or because they're evil.....i try to explain macroevolution to them, but they of course don't believe in that....it's like there are 1000 reasons to NOT like snakes, and only a couple TO like snakes (if you're trying to convince someone)......there is SO much misinformation about them, that you can't make people RELEARN what they grew up hearing....hell, most people around here still think the daddy long-legs is venomous, but it's mouth is too small to bite
