Gay herpers...weird...
I don`t discriminate...But it never came to my mind that some of the herpers here are gay...
As for our(mine and Jeremmy`s) cleaning and handeling protocols...There are plenty of people which used all the safety protocols, equipment and handeling tehniques and still got bit. I`ve been working with hots for 6 years now and I never got bit. Of course I screwed up a couple time, but at least I have the dignaty to admit my mistakes so maybe other people will learn from them. I even got hit on the finger once by a viper(it sroke with it`s head without biting). Once, Vipera berus venom entered my blood streem threw a cut and I was hospitalised for 8 days in very bad condition. It was my first viper but that did not effect my thinking at all. I still have no ideea how it entered my blood, I had absolutely no local effects what so ever but my body surely felt it. All the normal simptoms of Vipera berus envenimation. I know that sooner or later I will get bit and I accept it. It goes with the teritory.
Best regards, Alex S.

I would have to say that Tom is way wrong in criticizing Alex and Jeremy on telling others of near misshaps they have had in handling snakes. It is very brave of them to admit that they made a mistake and share it with others so that the others ( especially younger herpers who will listen to them more than the old farts ) can learn. Calling them names serves nothing at all.
All folks keeping reptiles make mistakes, sometimes very dangerous ones. Most of the worst mistakes, those that hurt the hobby, are made by folks Tom`s age that are keeping stuff like mambas that they have no business keeping in the first place. Making mistakes like Jeremy and Alex wrote about is what learning is all about, though. It takes a big person to admit making a mistake and to share it with others on a web site so that they might learn. JohnZ

i hate when people say EVERYONE makes a mistake.....in 5 years, i've never had a close call, and i had to pull a stick on gauge off of a 6ft EDB's face (on the corner of it's mouth, on both the upper and lower lip)
some people are more careless, and some people are just unlucky.......i've also never caused one single wreck or "close call".......when i die, i'd like it to still be that way in both cases.......
not everyone will be bitten....CHANCES are that they will, but according to coca cola, 1 in 12 wins.....i was 1 for 57....now i'm 2 for 68........chances are just that, CHANCE........
i don't have a problem with people because they were bitten, i just have a problem with people that are dumbasses with their snakes........some take too many chances and that will come back on me.......some people have a heightened awareness that will keep them from having one of those lazy days that ends up being a "story about being bitten"......
everyone won't be bitten.......i had to shove a coat hanger into a guy's belly when i was 13......not fair to say that "everyone will have to stab someone in their lifetime"..........
we don't all lead the same lives........accidents happen......stupidity happens.......the stupidity is what i can't stand....

first of all, I am not the anonymous poster. I never post anonymous unless I have to. Second of all, that happened long ago and I thought that I would just remind people to save an accident in the future. I dont have a single snake right now so there is no way that I will cause any bans. I dont plan on keeping any more snakes in the future. I try not to make enemies and I try to get along with everyone and it seems that everytime I try to help someone, people get mad at me. They seem to get offended. I am almost tired of being the good guy. I have never been bitten. I dont think that I am better or more lucky than anyone. I just havent been bitten. I am not mad at you Tommyboy. You have no reason to be mad at me. You dont agree with me so just ignore the post that I made and dont try to start an argument over nothing. I was in a good mood. I have a big surprize waiting on you.

No screw it, Im not going to argue with anyone. If you are a new keeper and are looking for advice or if you are an experienced keeper and keep two snakes together, this is just some information for you to think about. You dont have to follow my advice, I am no expert and most people know alot more than me but this is just a problem that I as a learning venomous keeper experienced. I really hope this helps some of you and maybe it will save someone from a bite. I am here to give what advice that I may happen to know. I am not here to argue or cause any trouble(I have already done my share) If I know of an answer to any question or if I know of a link or someone who may know an answer to any of you guys questions I will try my best to help. If I run into a problem I will tell you about what I did wrong and how I changed it and I will also ask for advice when needed. I was so close to just breaking into an argument but we all know that an argument isnt needed. I gave my advice, now it is up to you all to take what you need from it. Thanks...Jeremy.

Like any other Keeper, I have had my close calls also. By talking about those situation, I think it helps warn new Keepers to watch their hands. I think that Jeremy and Alex both are very upstanding Men, yes I do mean Men. In my way of seeing things it takes a Man to admit a mistake. Jeremy and Alex, ya’ll Keep up the good work, I have learnt a lot from talking to the both of you. You are both very Knowledgeable Keepers and I would take my Hat off to both of you...............................Be safe ya’ll, happy herping Wally

I would consider allowing a stick on gauge to get stuck to a 6ft EDB's face (on the corner of it's mouth, on both the upper and lower lip) to be a very big mistake. Most people stick thermometers to the cage and not the snake!

3m tape is not what it used to be.......the guage found it's way onto the poor snakes face......i managed to get it off, not get bitten and not harm the snake......just one of those experiences that makes you a better caretaker for the animals.....the snake was 6'3" last i checked, and was still very lively ;)

Alex and Jeremy, the point of people casting stones at you isn't important, so acknowledging them only gives them fuel to come back with yet another post. Just ignore them.
Now to your close call...let me tell you about a buddy of mine (I call him a buddy because we've traded ideas and snakes in the past).
He was housing several copperheads together and one day the inevitable happened. He had counted them all at the other end of the enclosure...but made that fateful mistake of counting without moving the snakes to confirm. He thought he counted 7. What he actually saw was 6. He reached in to grab the water dish. Upon lifting it, there was the 7th he thought was at the other end of the cage with the others. POW!
It was definitely a bad mistake, but one *chuckle* he soon won't forget.
The whole point behind mistakes is to hopefully learn from them. With you coming out on here to say that you made one is a great thing...it shows us that you are evolving in your pursuits in the community. Hopefully you and anyone else you've told of this won't make the same mistake again or for the first time.
Thanks for sharing Jeremy.
Matt

Your mature attitude sure is shining!
I'll admit, I don't always have the cleanest of mouths, but I do usually try to refrain from childish namecalling...this is a site for mature herp enthusiasts, not trash-talking immature babies. Age isn't what I'm talking about. It's about the way you conduct yourself on a website such as this.
If you'd like to establish or maintain any friendships or whatever you've come to accomplish on this site, I'd reccommend you grow up a little.
Everything in it's right place, and this is certainly not the place for your juvenile rantings.
