Hi hows everyone doing ? its been a while since i ve posted anything though i do browse the forum . My question is does anyone else find that reptiles and amphibians in the trade are miss identified , i understand you dont have to be the best expert to keep them as pets or work in a pet shop . I went down to a shop not far from where i live called wharf aquatics the guy who runs the reptile section is really full of himself thinking he is a world leading expert or somthing . I noticed a lable saying crevice creeper frogs and being into amphibians as much as reptiles i looked in and saw red legged kassinas ( kassina macculata ) . I saw this as a real stupid mistake as kassinas and crevice creepers dont look alike and aint even in the same family . kassina - hyperoliidae and crevice creepers - microhylidae . Does anyone else notice some bad mistakes made in miss identifying reptiles and amphibians.

Shaun: Good to see you back posting again.
You are absolutely right about a lot of folks in the pet shop trade not knowing very much about reptiles and amphibians. Sometimes, they just use the names for animals that the importers / wholesalers have on their price lists, because they do not know any better, or have no desire to learn, or do not know where to look for the correct information.
And you are right about the attitude that some of the pet shop folks have also, like they know everything. I have seen it time and time again. Most of them have no interest in you pointing out their errors, even though you know so much more than them.
It is unfortunate, as it makes the whole industry look bad, which hurts those few shops whose owners are knowledgable, and try to get things right, and take good care of their animals.
Best Regards JohnZ

I'm pretty lucky in the fact that I have a shop in my town that only deals in reptiles and amphibians and the guy that owns the place really knows his stuff. He's a jerk but he knows his gig. On the other hand, the other store in my town deals in all types of animals and they know nothing about reptiles and amphibians except how to sell them. Their animals often look skinny or sick. It's pretty sad not to know the proper names of animals but these people don't even know proper care. I always go to the jerky but knowledgable guy for my animal needs because I hate seeing sick animals. I feel like buying up stock when I see improper care but I'm not that loaded so the issue of money comes into hand. Plus the wife might have a thing or two to say about my actions. Anyway, I won't ramble anymore about this.

Only people who know what the shift key does are allowed to participate in "spell sniping". :) :) :)

Fear not bro, I get ripped to shreds here at work for my spelling. I have a degree in English Literature and my spelling is atrocious. How sad is that? (I wonder if I spelled atrocious right?)
