Well, I just got back from Apalachicola and there are still 5 people out there right now. [We don't have monthly meetings though, because all of the people west of the Mississippi kept complaining about the drive.] Our trips are periodic, but we try to do some really fun stuff. Right now, annual membership will get you our quarterly newsletter and 2 of our new full color waterproof decals (for car bumpers obviously). We used to give out patches, but most of the membership has them already, so we are trying something different.

While Chris IS the president and his answer is the definitive, there are a few unpublished benefits to joining the society. By virtue of my membership, I got invited "behind the scenes" at The Perth (Australia) Zoological Gardens to watch Pilbara Monitors hatching out. Our field trips are not regular or even often but the society has had field trips to Bill Haast's facility, Savannah River Ecology Lab and the Appalachicola National Forest. We have an annual (2 years running so far!) dinner at the Columbia Show in Columbia, South Carolina. And in case it hasn't been said, we have THE BEST DARNED NEWSLETTER available in the free world!
