Geeze Rose...
I can see by all the capital letters your a bit hyper because of this issue. My opinion is, he should not keep any venomous snakes unless:
1) They are in real cages, that can lock and will offer the least chance of the snake getting out when secured. Fish tanks don't fit this bill in my estimation.
2) The cage is kept in room that can be locked and is it'self "snake proofed", so if it does get out of the cage it cannot get out of the room.
I gave up my collection as did many I know when children were brouth into the home. I did not re-establish my snake collection till they were both 10 yrs old. Mixing the two at a young age is a disaster just waiting to happen.

Hey Rose, I in no way recommend anyone to Keep Venomous Snake in the House (especially with Kids present). This would be asking for trouble. When I do Keep Venomous Snakes, I normally put them in Double Cages, but I never Keep a Hot Snake in the House. If I were in your Shoes, I would talk to him all I could and try to talk him into putting the Snake in a Separate Building. This is somewhat safer than having the Snake in your House, I mean if the Snake gets out by some odd chance and it’s in a Separate Building, it would at least be in the Building rather than the House. Just talk to him, tell him to remember Hot’s are not Toys..................Be Safe Ya’ll, Happy Herping : Wally

It’s always better to keep snakes in a climate controlled out building. Not just venomous, but all snakes. These is an inherent odor and other issues that make separate building more desirable for both snake and keepers, however, that is not an option for all people. If he is interested in keeping a single rattlesnake, maintaining a climate controlled building just isn’t practical. There are simple, safe, and effective cages he can buy. I personally use Neodesha for almost all my venomous. They are cheap, easy to clean, and easy to lock. They are designed with holes on either end for pins. You can put the pin in one side and a simple hasp lock on the other, making it impossible for the snake to get out and children (or fools) to get in. If he will track down a cage like that, and you have a room that can be locked while the kids are in the house, the snake can be maintained as safely as one could be maintained. It is not recommended to house venomous snakes in a rack that is high off the ground, however, the Neodesha is so light he can place the cage high in the locking room, thus adding another barrier from kid to snake. He can simple sit it down on a table or floor when he is ready to work with it. For most of my venomous keeping career, I keep them inside my house. When I started keeping and breeding in large numbers, I set up an out building, but I recently moved and for the time being, I have nearly 100 snakes in my spare bedroom for the time being. I am comfortable that none are going to escape and no one is going to get into them. If your husband has specific questions, please have him contact us.

I believe that if you want to expose your children to the wonders of snakes and espescially venomous ones you should do what I did. When my daughter was one, I took her with me to Congaree Swamp National Park in Columbia, SC. because of the easy surface on the boardwalk we were able to complete two circuits of the high and low boardwalk loops. On our second trip around I noticed something moving in the water and coming towards a little bridge over Cedar Creek. It was an adult male, eastern cottonmouth and it had a beautiful reddish coloration. now to most babies a sight of a snake would probably be scarry. However my daughter was so interested in the snake we just simply whipspered to each other how cool the snake was to us and then we watched it swim under the bridge to the other side of the creek. That was hope's first snake and it was a venomous one too. And since then hope has been with me to every kind of snake exhibit at a state park, nature center, zoo, and a couple of private venomous keepers. She knows the basic dangers and she is very smart for a 4 year old. I guess if you dont like venomous snakes you probably have no reason to try to put your children at risk, but if you have two reptile lovers in your household already...then a venomous snake could be a valuable teaching tool about safety, biology, anatomy, and by the time they are ready to graduate high school they most likely will follow the career path of a herpetologist, or just have the passion like i do in the form of a hobby.
