Thanks Keys. I see on your profile you live near stonehenge? Well so do i Warminster is about half an hour away. Sorting a dwa is not as difficult as you might imagine. Once i knew in my mind what species i wanted and how many i first contacted insurance companies and finally settled with Exotic Direct [01444 412118]. They quoted me £110 for one snake and £194 for up to 5 snakes, for a period of 1 year. Then i got the viv all set up and bought all the equipment i needed, tongs and grabs ect. You have to have the insurance policy set up and in affect when you apply for the liscence and then its just a waiting game until the vet gets his arse in gear and comes round to inspect your set-up. It took about a week for mine. Providing your viv is satisfactory and he or she sees the welfare of the animals will be looked after and you can show a bit of responsibility that keeping dangerous animals requires your dwa is granted. I dont know where you live so it all depends on which council's duristiction you fall under, but the fee for the liscence can differ from county to county. Mine is £170 per year plus a payment of £50 for the vet fee. Yes you have to pay for the inspection as well! I dont know if its true or not but apparently Salisbury council charges aronnd £500! However this seems a bit exessive so i very much douht it. I actually agree with these conditions as it asures that only the serious will apply and only the commited will be accepted. Otherwise every man and his dog could keep venomous snakes and undouhtably they would fall into the wrong hands and someone could get seriously hurt or worse killed. The last thing we need is to give the media ammunition to destroy our privelidged hobby then no one could keep these beautiful and fascinating [BUT ALSO DEADLY] animals. One last thing. Do you have a reliable and knowledgeable reptile dealer? I'm sure you do as you already keep snakes! However i strongly suggest visiting D.P.S Exotics in Warminster, East st. which is where i aqquire my snakes from. It is run by a guy called Dave Preistly and when it comes to all things reptillian i trust no one more. You can call him on 01985 220 409. He has a very broad contact base and if your after any species in particular he may be able to locate them for you. He is currently tracking down pit-viper species for me. If you'd like to take a look at my set-up to help you along with your own application i'd be only to happy to obblige. Any thing else my email adress is on my profile or you can phone me on 07776001993. Best of luck,Mark
