i have a 4x8 room that is my snake room.....would the odor of my "feeder mice project" cause my snakes to react to me in a more aggressive manner?
it just seems logical to me that it WOULD and they'd smell food and see me, which doesn't seem like the best for them....i'm not worried about avoiding a bite, but more worried about them constantly being stressed when i'm around, thinking i'm a big meal they wanna try to catch.......
it would be temporary until it warms up for good and the mice can go outside....i'm wanting to keep it small-time, so only a couple of cages used for this, and my 7 snakes would be the other occupants

I tried the same thing a few years ago and noticed that all of my snakes were constantly moving, as if they were searching for the mice. The feeding response has to be heightened in such an arrangement.
The other more serious complication to this set up (for me) was that I developed a severe allergy to rodents. I ended up in the E.R. for 20 hours due to an anaphylactic reaction after handling one of the mice. Now I can't say one way or the other if this could happen to you but it is something to keep in mind.
Perhaps you could put your mice in a small shed until another option comes about?
Good luck. - Matt

my rats are in my snake room now. and my boas are definitely more aggressive. I can't wait until it warms up enough to put them under my house. I can stand up in my crawl space. they really should have put in a basement.

the smell I will have to endure is another factor.....common sense just says the snakes will be affected and just don't like irking them any more than i have to.........the weather was 80 degrees a couple of weeks ago when i got this idea to breed my own feeders, now it's in the 40's and mice outside probably isn't the best plan......
something i'm THINKING of doing is using my patio as a place for them and making a framed cover to trap heat in there from a lamp......that way, they stay warm enough and it's nothing permanent........they will definitely be outside when it quits dipping below 60 degrees......our weather is crazy
the allergy thing is intriguing.......i'm allergic to most everything already.....i doubt that testing my luck is wise

i understand the allergys. I am allergic to them too. but I started using cheap catlitter in the bottom of the tubs with the pine bedding and the smell has all but disappeared. and if the pine gets to you, you could always go to aspen or carefresh.

Rick, The urates in rodent urine will permeate the sheetrock in your house. Over time your house will smell like piss and you will have to replace the sheetrock in order to get rid of the smell. I suggest breeding them in the shed (if you have one). I breed my rodents in the shed and I've noticed mice are more tolerant to cold temperatures than extreme heat. In the winter I give my mice old rags to shred for insulation and use a portable space heater when it gets below freezing. I've had more problems with heat. Last summer I left my mice outside under my covered patio, when I came home from work, all my mice were brain damaged due to heat stroke.
