I wander if I stand in the middle of highway and get killed if they will try to prohibit driving...

this is why i plan to leave this country within 15 years, permanently
it used to be a case here or there that made no sense, didn't address the problem and just screwed a few out of their rights.......bans do NOTHING, regulation could actually create revenue, educate people, and just be better in every way.......
if your right to do/keep/eat/play something doesn't benefit politicians in some way, then one day, that right will be gone..........it's inevitable and people aren't getting smarter, so the trend doesn't look like it will change.........
everyone knows animals are unpredictable, and that's why you don't pose with them for pictures.....by doing so, you're saying that your life isn't worth having these pictures without that animal...people wanna stand out THAT bad and that's ridiculous.......

I agree about the politicians, sadly everywhere I go the politicians are the same...
Hope you pick some nice place. Where I'm from people are lucky to keep a corn snake...the population is so concentrated you would be really lucky to see any wild animals...I know here is a lot of stupid people messing up what we have but, I love it here. When I was younger the closest I would come to venomous would be TV documentaries. Every time I look at my snakes I cannot believe how lucky I am...

"Bill testified on Senate Bill 578, which he calls a start. It mandates that owners of exotic animals register them and keep them caged."
What exactly is wrong with this? A law which calls for the registration and proper caging of exotic animals sounds perfectly reasonable to me. The bereaved grandfather is the one pushing for the outright ban of exotic animals but it doesn’t sound like he has a lot of say in the matter.

toddg, I was actually relieved that the bill calls for registering and proper caging and will not ban keeping venomous. What annoys me is that people are stupid enough to go close to an exotic animal get hurt or killed and of course it's the animal or the law to blame. I understand the poor man has lost a loved one (but to stupidity)and now he blames everyone but his granddaughter and does everything he can to ban exotic animals - "It's not exactly what I wanted. I wanted a ban on the exotic animals", "Hilderbrand wants a new law passed this session so he is encouraging everyone to contact their legislator." ...that I don't see fair.

I understand your concerns and I’m in agreement with you however, I believe the only chance that the possession and ownership of exotic animals can continue is to regulate and police the activity.
I’m wondering if this can’t somehow be turned into an advantage. After all, it seems to me there’s money to be made by the state in licensing fees and the like for regulating the possession and ownership of exotic animals.
Petra,I live in California where ownership of venomous snakes is virtually impossible due to strict laws and regulations and as a result, several people, that either I know or know of, are keeping venomous snakes. I’ve even heard of a few celebrities that are illegally keeping venomous snakes!
Now I know these are potentially deadly animals, but they can and are kept SAFELY in captivity, as you well know.
Surely potential sales of venomous snakes, insurance, antivenin, permit fees, among ancillary accessories would benefit the great state of Kansas far greater than an outright ban, which, if California is any example, will just mean people will keep exotics illegally!
