I was looking for detailas about this new Bothrops.
FYI....I forgot to mention on the phone, I'll have a table at Hamburg, although I won't have much space with the LCD and quite a few lateralis and boas to get rid of.

No Matt, the Bothrops Dr. Lamar was showing was a based upon being an entirely new snake by itself, something new nowadays. Although he did mention a number of upcoming possible dna splits for some of the Bothrops and Bothriechis, including schlegelii.
He also had a photo of a patternless Lachesis sp.that was absolutely outrageous!

Doug,
Any insight into the Schlegeli splits? I assume you're not referring to schleg/supraciliaris?
Interesting on the Bothrops. I wonder, do the indigenous peoples there have a different name for it?
Ohhh, sweet, a patternless muta!!! My dream would be to find, well, any, but a completely melanistic specimen of any species.

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but the last time we heard about a unique find out of Borneo, it was 49 feet long and weighed 985 lbs!

Hey Matt,
No it wasn't the supra's. These were yet another split with schlegs with some of the Northern snakes if I recall correctly.
The Bothrops had no native name that I heard of. Really that whole Peru/Venezuela area will give us some more species of these in years to come as herpetologists find means of delving deeper into the interior of the foerst. Contrary to popular belief, the area really isn't very well known with only the fringes of the forest having been studied for the most part.

Ah. Thanks Doug. I kinda had the suspicion what you meant was geographic differences between NW South American schlegeli and Central American schlegs.

Yep, them be the ones. Kind of been brewing for a little bit as I understand, but I have to be honest I don't keep up on as much taxonomy as I should sometimes. Too many variables for me anymore. Sigh...I remember when I just had herps to worry about....the good ole days.
