As some of you know NCARK has been very involved in the debate on whether to ban Exotic Animals in NC. The Ban is being proposed by the Animal Protection Institute (API), Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the NC Zoo at Asheboro. It is not a study that seeks to find a way to regulate these animals. This study has been hijacked by the Animal Rights Movement and is pushing for a ban. I was selected by the Pres. of the NC Senate to serve on the study committee. Reptiles are the only animal interest group represented on the committee. The other members are representatives of various govt. agencies and a large contingent of AR activists. At this point all venomous (including native) that aren't already regulated by the state would be banned.
Public comment is not limited to citizens of NC. Anyone can voice their well thought out logical opinion. Let the committee know your opinion, the facts, and how venomous keepers benefit their communitees.

Andrew, perhaps you could post a sample letter of support that folks here could use to help structure their own letters. I know you do not want a lot of letters coming in that look like form letters, but, at the same time, a letter posted here with all the relevent points would make it much easier for folks here to send in support letters, and might generate a much better response.
Best Regards JohnZ

Honestly, I think they should just propose the same laws as Florida. Florida has the best laws for venomous keepers.

A sample letter would be of use. A few years ago when they tried to pass a ban on all reptiles in chicago I was a member of the chicago herpetological society and they had a formal letter that was to be sent to the email address of people on the board that would have been making the decision and I found the sample to be of much use. So it might not be such a bad idea.
Thanks Eric

Your response was greatly appreciated Chris. It is not available to view online at this time. I will let you know how that works out. Dr. Fry told me he would put his 2 cents worth in as well. I should be updated with this weeks comments tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Andrew
