Steve, snakes staying locked up for 24 to 48 hours is somewhat unusual, but it not unheard of. Hopefully, the problem will take care of itself. There have been some instances where snakes were unable to seperate from eachother, and that might require the assistance of a vet.
As far as the eggs, you would probably have eggs produced in about 45 days, and it will take about 60 more days for them to hatch. This depends somewhat on the temperatures and the health of the female snake, so can vary by a couple of weeks.
You might want to EMail Al Cortz at cerastes@earthlink.net , as he has worked with these snakes quite a lot.
Best Regards JohnZ

Hi everyone,
About 3 weeks ago I reveived a pair of Cerastes cerastes my self.
About 3 days afterwords they started to mate and they were locked for about 2-3 days. I was out on the field at that time so all the info I know is from what my apartment coleague told me. THE FEMALE DIED while they were locked !!! My friend stugled for several hours to separate the male from the dead female. The male is ok and I am getting another pair soon. The female was not very fat and she might have been sick before this event but you never no...
All the best,
Alex

Alex, good to see you back here again.
It is unfortunate about you loosing the Horned Viper female.
Perhaps this behavior is normal for them?
I hope someone like Al who has a lot of expereince with these snakes will offer some advise.
Best Regards JohnZ
