What is the best times to drive around looking for snakes? Is it just after sunset, just before sunrise or somewhere in between? Thanks Rob

Sorry! I live in Norman, Oklahoma. We have had flodding for the past couple of months, and most of my faorite spots for flipping are under water. I have never used the driving around tactic but heard it is worth a try. Thanks for the reply. Rob

Sure is worth a try. It's absolutely addicting. You'll find 10x more snakes driving roads in Ok than flipping. I've had the best luck late summer when babies are being born/hatched. The snake population is a whole lot larger this time of year. Spring brings out a lot of males out looking for mates. Good nights are temp., moon, wind, barometric pressure, and of course luck dependent though. All the rain will sure help you.

Depends on what species you're looking for. A nice blacktop road after the sun goes down is great for finding most rattlesnakes and such. There's a certain time of day I call "glow", its before sunset right when everything turns a gold hue. That's the best time for colubrids.
