I have been out of reptiles for a few years now and am wanting to get back into it a little. I live in NC and am looking for only a few species. I really want to get into Hognose snakes and want to know where to find eastern hoggies. What is the best method for hunting them (road cruising or field hunting)? I am currently living in Gaston county, but I'm not afraid to travel to find what I want. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. Please note that I am an experienced keeper in venomous and nonvenomous reptiles and I know how to care for these awesome animals. I would be interested in other nonvenomous snakes as well, but I am mainly looking for hoggies. I would be interested in going out in groups or with individuals if the chance arises. Thanks for your time and God bless!

Bobby,
North Carolina has some good herpers who probably can help you find Heterodon areas.
I think the North Carolina Herp Society is no longer in business, however, you might want to contact an outfit called NCARK at http://www.ncark.org/
They are mostly an activist group concerned with NC Legislation, however, some of them are field herpers, and might help you find Hog Nosed Snakes.
Also, you might contact Sal at WNCHerps at http://imageevent.com/wncherps;jsessionid=hmzko89nl1.tiger_s
Perhaps he knows some field herpers in your area.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ

Hi, before you conatct Sal, look on fauna, and read about him.(look under new posts) With that said, maybe we can get together. I havn't found too many, but my Grandparents land is unchartered territory. They have found me 2 without looking for them. They have 25 acres, and it neigbors much larger land plots. I just hatched out 6 E. Hogs yest and today. I live in Cabarrus Co. Email me and maybe we can get out in the field, as I don't have anyone to search with.

Shane, the fauna thread you are referring to is about Silas Crawford, not Sal Ricco. Just wanted to set the record straight.

Anyone know how I can get a hold of Sal? I tried that link, but I couldn't get any contact info. Is road cruising here in the east a bad idea? I have been out on several nights and found NOTHING. It's frustrating me to no end. Anyway, thanks for the tips and help everyone. God bless!
