This story is so ridiculous that I though I would share a few of Brady`s quotes:
"Ahhhhhh! He's on me! He's bitten me! Where is his head??? Grab his head!!!!!"
Barr and his crew encountered a particularly shifty python. What ensued in all its mucky drama became the "Snake Bite" episode,
"I was so completely incapacitated by the pain," Barr wrote
"The situation gets out of control real quick. Before you know it, we didn't know where the snake was,"
The team later admitted to breaking the cardinal rule of snake hunting: They got the tail of the 7-foot python but not the head.
The unlucky blow from the snake's "backward-curving fangs"
"I'm bleeding!" Barr screams.
Pythons aren't venomous, but they don't need to be. The muck alone could kill Barr. "Good God, I'm going to die of some infection," he remembered thinking.
Barr eventually finds a "proper hospital," undergoes four weeks of anti-rabies treatment,
As Barr says, "there's a scientific reason for us putting our hands on animals. I have never captured an animal just for television."

Thanks again Brady for the entertainment ! LOL

:D :D :D Lol I was reading it in a hurry and didn't realize it is a real article until I was done. I honestly thought those are parts of some funny cartoon.
They should make comics out of this.

Barr, despite his obvious knowledge, has never really struck me as a real herpetologist. Real herpers have a 'je ne se qua', a true acceptance of the beauty of the animal that they are lucky enough to happen across. Barr comes across as trying too hard for television (even though he denies it vehemently).
I don't know. I appreciate the man's knowledge, but I'm just not that fond of him.

I usually avoid Brady and his less than loving or intelligent approach to large and/or venomous snakes. His on film personality doesn't really appeal to me, and didn't even before I was really into reptiles. I just never see him as likable, and neither does my wife. My 6yr old son doesn't even want to watch him. He likes Steve and Jeff, and the few episodes of O'Shay that I was lucky enough to video tape.
That being said I will be watching this weeks Dangerous Encounters just to see a python get a little payback for all of us who are forced to make a choice between watching a substandard "herpetologist" and not watching any reptile shows. My thanks to the lucky python for the entertaining event that I will take great pleasure in watching this weekend.
I'm glad Brady didn't have any life threatening problems occur from his exposure to that disease infested cave, I wish him no harm, just want him to either show real passion, or get off my TV.

I guess I share a different perspective. I see a guy who shows a lot of respect for some of the herps he is catching on camera (staged or not); the black mamba episode is a good case in point. Sure, he may not be as polished a "handler" as some other folks on TV nor is he quite as calm when confronted with a potentially dangerous situation but heck, who can blame him. He got grilled by folks on this website about that mamba encounter but I wonder how many would react the same way if they were in the kind of situation he was in and in front of a camera. Unless you've done it, no one can criticize.
But, what I like best about Brady is that he is first and foremost a herpetologist who has the academic background so rip him if you want, the guy has my respect for paying his dues and now living the good life in front of the camera which is far more difficult than most people imagine. He comes off as the kind of guy you'd like to hang out with in the field; just a down to earth normal dude who doesn't need to sport outlandish outfits, crazy free handling, funny accents, wild personality, etc....just normal.

Cant stand the man personally. His lack of expertise with snakes is extreamly apparent, definately compared to the other TV personalities and even most Herpeculutrist I know.
If he does have a vast academic back ground in Herpetology it definitely has nothing to do with the sub order Ohpidia and probably not even the order Squamata as I dont recall him doing too many if any lizard shows.
I wont knock his crocodilian expertise as I hear he is one of the best but snakes are definitely not his expertise. Id say good ol Steve was more of a snake academic then him.
Opinions are like cloacas I know but I will stick by my cloaca like I do my life, to the very end. :D
BTW, the only TV personality I feel is an actual academic is Mark O'Shea.

While I personally don't like it when people over-react to pain (which I see a lot of since I am a paramedic), it also irks me when people shut down their facial expressions to hide their pain. That's just as much of a "show" as anything and it doesn't impress me. You can always see those tiny micro tremors of muscles twitching throughout their body that let you know what's really going on inside. :-) There is a certain amount of "dealing with the pain" that is appropriate. And then there's the high pitched screaming "get it off me!!" pain.
Trust me. I've seen enough broken bones grating against each other and burn patients with skin sliding off to know that every human on the planet has their pain limit. So don't give me any tough guy talk. I've seen muscled-up bikers screaming like a woman in labor. Think you're bad? Ask a cop to let you take the tazer test.
I haven't been bitten by a 15 foot python of any kind, but after looking at their dentition, I'm certain I would want it off after it started severing muscle tissue. It hurts like a ________ when muscle is getting severed. I wouldn't fault Brady for that.
As for the shows that they do, they have a brain storming session where they pitch in ideas, then they submit them to the producers, and the producers choose which ones make it to television. Steve Irwin had a lot more say in the content of his shows. That's why there was such a diversity of herps.

this production was supposed to be an experiment on retics and why they consistantly choose cool temps...and why... and how. They were in the cave because of the low temps, and to see if big pythons were going in because of the low temps. The cave exploration in Malaysia was to be followed by a maze experiment segment back in the studio in Washington using a sample group of captive retics.
Because of the drama of the bite incident NG producers decided to drop the experiment and move the footage to their 'Dangerous Encounters' series. I saw the bite myself. It was bad. I've been bitten by big retics... it is extremely ugly. They turned an unfortunate situation into entertaining TV. That's what they do.
Like Brady or not, he is walking the walk. I respect that.

15ft...I believe that would hurt really badly.
However 7ft python supposedly bit him. I have been bitten by 7 to 8 ft snakes.
(Yeah, my mistakes.) It did hurt but it really wasn't that bad. I can understand him being worried about the infection with so many bats. But the pain???
I'm not saying I have anything against the guy. But try to forget who he is and read the initial post again. Got to admit, it is funny.
