For those wanting to see our friend Brady get bitten by that "huge" python, the show will air tonight at 9:00 pm on the National Geographic Chanel.
Should be fun to watch.

I don't know how a "professional" screams like a girl and yells like a typical drunk neck and doesn't get criticized while Austin Stevens gets bad mouthed on this site. One should be able to tell that Austin is passionate about his work and seeks out knowledge through other people whether they be locals or professionals. There is almost nothing professional in Mr. Barr's approach to herping. I've watched him in other documentaries and his attitude is loud, pushy, and doesn't listen to or accept help from other professionals as if he knows it all and can't learn anything else. I feel that if you carry the attitude of I know everything about my field then you my friend, lost all passion related to your field.

samekski, I would not say that Brady Barr does not get criticised here,LOL, just look back through the old posts. He has taken many hits in the past.
Same thing happens with Austin Stevens, Mark O`Shea, Steve Irwin, and others.
Some of it is deserved because of these folks actions on film, and some of it is not deserved, from folks who just dont like a certain individual.
They all have their good and bad moments on film. They are living (or were living) the life of TV fame and fortune. You have to admire them for that part of it.
Some folks are gonna love them, and some will hate them. If they are educating the public, then that is a good thing. If they are distorting the truth, that is a bad thing.
After tonights show of Brady, I am sure we will have a lot more folks thinking he over-reacted to the python bite and tried to ham it up and add a bit too much drama.
He is probably thinking that at age 44 he is losing ground fast, so he has to do somethig to try to make his show better. That could come back to bite him though, as if he over does his acting, folks might just notice he is faking his actions.
We will know more tonight after the show.
Best Regards JohnZ

Python bites: If you can take a bite to your hamstring from something with teeth like this, without making any noise, then you win the testiculo-maximus award.

From my collection of fangs and snake teeth, 12 foot long African Rock Pythons (Python sebae sebae) have teeth that are the same size as the fangs from a 4 foot long Florida Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti).
Just instead of being hit by only two of them (and smaller secondary teeth), you are getting hit by hundreds of them!
No thanks, I might scream like a girl and then people would make fun of me!

The great thing about television is that it's all about the drama. I once got chastised for laughing while being tagged by a rat snake repeatedly and they went back and dubbed some "intense" music over it to "set a better feel".
Hey Karl.....you're getting a great new curator! Dino is one of the good guys!!!!! But he's not getting out of New Orleans without getting me my bush vipers first...lol.

Bottom line:
Whether Brady Barr, Austin Stevens, or anyone else, the agents, directors, producers, and networks all want dramatic, over-the-top behavior and needless risk. Ergo these "personalities" are under pressure to deliver or be replaced/cancelled.

Well, I just watched the National Geographic special, and the science using the computer graphics was great.
National Geo is getting better and better at that.
However, as expected, old Brady just over acted his role again. His running and screaching was just not needed, and his having to climb up on the back of the natives to get into the truck, and then his screaming when they put a bit of alcahol on his wounds was just silly. I am sure it hurt some, but he is just over acting or just a pampered tv star wimp. You could see all those Indonesian folks almost laughing at him, but they were holding it in, as they knew they were on TV.
Also, he wrecks the science when he calls the reticulated pythons teeth "fangs." He was also dumb to wrap the thing around his neck after he grabbed it the first time. Did he really not expect the snake to start constricting ?
And where is the great science that reticulated pythons live in holes in the ground and eat bats ?
I think that is kind of old news. Also, it pissed me off some that they disturbed that fine huge python at the zoo to stretch it out and measure and weight it. Was that really needed ? It seemed more of a photo op for Brady than any science involvement.
As usual, the scientist working with Brady are the stars of the show. How about leaving old Brady home, and giving some of those great young researchers shows of their own? Or at least let him do the Marlin Perkins thing and sip a martini while Jim wrestles the pythons ?
Sorry to Barr Bash, however, even though swimming in Bat Guano soup would and breathing possible rabies containing air and amonia and methane in a bat cave would be a concern, his actions concerning the python were just not real. Sort of reminded me of that Paris Hilton show where she screached when she had to get her hands dirty.
I have been bitten far worse by larger pythons and crocodiles, and know many other folks who have also.
Yep, a bite from a large python hurts, and it can cause tears in the skin like he had, but it sure is not as bad as he was making out.
His actions are just too much of a pampered hollywood star.
I really was hoping that all the news articles I posted earlier which made him sound so bad would turn out to be less sensationalizes when we finally saw the movie, however, I was wrong. Brady, you act too much !
Best Regards JohnZ
