Well, whereas We will watch a snake show for the snakes, the networks don't just want us...they want EVERYONE.
And, while we will watch and scoff, the less-knowledgable will watch, jaws agape, and be amazed at his "courage and peril."
And the National Geographic Channel will sell ads for all of us to watch.
And what marketing buttbrain came up with "Nat Geo"? My dad was a member of the "National Geographic Foundation" throughout my youth, and I grew up gleaning much knowledge and entertainment from their respected magazine. "Nat Geo", in my opinion, makes them sound like they are trying, too hard, to keep up with MTV and VH1. *rolls eyes*

I fell asleep before the show came on but the previews were hilarious! He looked like he was going into shock lol
I find it funny that a man who can calmly get pulled into the water by a 15 foot nile croc would get so scared after a python bite. Its just goes to show that he is not a snake expert. He is however a croc expert which shows and I definitely wont take that away from him. The man has more gutts then I do in that respect.

Wow, did you see the bite? He had lacerations down to the muscle. He wasn't kidding! I honestly didn't expect it to be that bad.

That is because he turned and pulled away from the snake, causing the tear.
If he had simply reached down and removed the snakes head as it was chewing on him, he would just have had just puncture wounds. He would have also had control of the head of the snake, which was sorta the point, wasn`t it ?
Perhaps the larger tears were better in the sense that they could be disinfected easier. Punctures might have retained more of the fecal soup he was waiding in.

In addition to what JohnZ has already mentioned, the repeated ad nauseam comments like, "this could be the most dangerous encounter yet", "people die doing this",
and "I want to catch a big snake, I just don't want to die doing it" made me want to scream. Whether he was forced by the producers to do a shock value piece (which this was) or not, until he becomes more of a natural history/nuts and bolts guy like Whitaker, O'Shea or Bredl, I won't respect him as a snake handler. Crocs, he's very good at. My .02.

12 foot long African Rock Python teeth on each end and 4 foot long Florida Cottonmouth fang in the middle.

Looks like it would hurt to me.

Chris, the show came on later than National Geo had published it. Might be some difference in Sattelite Dish folks verses Cable Folks ?
Anyway, it should air again several times in the next couple of weeks. It is worth looking for, if nothing more than for the computer generated graphics at the start of the show. They are quite excellent, and something that might be used in museums and zoos in standing exhibits. Watching Brady`s animated actions are just a plus, LOL !
Best Regards JohnZ

Im not denying it was painful. His reaction was an overreaction. Imagine the fun he would have had had he been tagged by something hot? Getting that worked up? Not a good, expert thing to do.
It painfully obvious that he is not in anyway comfortable around snakes. I have never seen him show anything remotely close to a calm demeanor around any serpent ever. He is afraid of them, its apparent if you read his body language, listen to his speech and look at his facial expression. He had the look of death in his eyes from the small clip I saw. It becomes even more apparent when you see how relaxed he is around crocs. Personally I would be the opposite but then again I wouldn't go around claiming to be a crocodilian expert either.
The bottom line of my argument is that he is not a snake expert. Thats all. He does a horribly poor job with snakes in every episode they are featured. From a snake enthusiast's stand point he is ridiculous. From a crocodillian enthusiast's standpoint he is an expert.
IMO only Steve and mark could cross the line between all dangerous reptiles and keep a calm, collected and knowledgeable demeanor. Jeff and Barr definitely aren't snake folks. Stevens is just a joke that I wont include in the company of the others.
