i need to know this b/c in biology class we are studing cells and the teacher wants to look at it uder the microscope just as part of an experiment to see if the are structered like that of other scaly creatures. any help is apreciated

No, it will not harm the snake. Just wash the area, apply a little betadine, and dab with some neosporin and that's more than sufficient (of course, even if you don't do anything, it will probably be fine). Have fun with the experiment.

I don't think you should take the whole scale...for what you are looking for, it's not necessary. Clip about half the scale with a sterilized nail clipper, & you're good to go.
