How in the world can you ship anything? I carried a load to the airport and tried to ship through Delta Dash with no success. They said I had to be a known customer and have an account. I can see why people take the risk and ship through Federal and Airborn. WHAT A HASSLE!

My best suggestion is to talk to someone who's already worked the kinks out of shipping. Call some dealers and get some tips. They'll help you get through the red tape.
Go to our Links section and choose the category "Breeders".

Federal and Airborne? Don't even think about it! It's a Federal offense and WILL carry jail time if you are caught.

Well actually it's a misdemeanor, and It's not worth even that for a couple bucks. Thanks though!

Tell that to Ed Tierney who got busted for mailing venomous snakes to a guy in Pennsylvania. He's in prison.

Mailing is a federal offense - that's US Mail - big differece. He was also shipping venomous snakes.
Shipping by Federal Express would be only a violation of that particular companies policy and not a federal offense. Whether it's OK to ship reptiles through them seems to differ depending on who you talk to, what time you talk to them and what day it is. Some people at these places say it's OK to ship non-venomous reptiles and some say you can't. One thing they all agree on is there is no guarentee of live arrival.
But for small packages ; pack them right and ship in safe weather and you'll be fine. I've been using FED EX overnight for the last two years without a late delivey or problem of any sort. Ship 'Next Day Air' for morning delivery ( 10:30 am ) ... it never fails.
However, I wouldn't trust shipping of an an old toothbrush with those goof balls of Airborne.

Thanks for the info, I knew it wasn't a federal offence, just private company policy. Brick

You need not be a known shipper with them. Although they may have some restrictions from terminal to terminal, in general I've had great service from them. It's the same as shipping Delta(though about $85 a shipment and you have to schedule it 24 hours before the flight), but you simply open the containers and let them inspect them when you get to the terminal. As long as you are shipping according to IATA standards, they will ship venomous no problem. Northwest has been more than happy to get my business, unlike Delta which apparently doesn't care about customer service or satisfaction.

Only thing is that there is no Northwest anywhere close to me. Maybe 5hrs away, but thank you very much for the info Matt. The one guy was right; I called 3 different federal express lines and they gave me several answers from yes to no. Crazy stuff, but a challenge never the less!
