I got into an argument with the fiancée two weeks ago because I took in a 13ft burm and refused to keep it in my hot room. It spent 2 weeks in the bathroom until it was delivered to its new home.
The reason I wouldn't put it in there was just what happened here. I have never had a snake get out but if that monster of a burm would have gotten out in my hot room. Terrible things could have happened. Not a risk I was willing to take.
If this had happened to me I honestly would have been too ashamed of myself to post it. We all make mistakes but you should try to avoid the obvious ones. Precaution is the name of this game. The more you take the better your chance of survival. My biggiest fear is not what happens to me if I get bit but what if my fiancée got bit or anyone other than myself. I would have to live with the end result. I never want to exsperience something like that. I know this is a morbid thought but this is a dangerous hobby. Even more so when people get careless and complacent.
You could clean out your closet and use it for a hot room. More than likely all you would have to do is secure under the door and add a lock. Then no snakes could get out no people could get in. Even if a snake escaped the cage it could not escape the room. You will also have to install proper ventilation also easily done. Might save you from ever having this problem again.
Well glad everything worked out for you.

Now I believe you were asking about venomous spiders just last week. I caught alot of flack for my respons to that. I am just glad no people or animals were injured. If you are going to have animals of any sort, think responsibley and think ahead.
I am fascinated with herps and study the locals to my area to help educate those who would harm them out of fear or hatred but, I dont have a legitimate reason to own them. I also have a famoly to think about. Resposibility with an animal goes alot deeper than feeding and general caring for a creature, But, knowing when to own.
I dont know you or pretend to know your reasons for ownership. Please be more careful in the future. Your life and those around you depend on it.

I realize what you are all saying, that I should have been a lot more careful and that this should have never happened in the first place. But the matter of the fact is that I did not just jump into keeping venomous and I am not irresponsible. Before, I obtained my rattlesnakes my family and I set up many rules and safety precautions such as, no contact that was not needed, sealing the room to make sure that if the snakes did get away they cannot leave the room, make sure the cages are absolutely escape proof etc, etc. Now, I am not trying to blast any of you in any way at all, but I am not an irresponsible keeper and I did not just jump into keeping venomous snakes. The mistake I made was that I left the boa constrictor's cage open, and that I had the other snake's cages on a desk in which that they can fall. But another thing is it was not a mistake in a way because I had purposely left the boa's cage open so I can have the heat lamp on the side of the cage. I never leave its cage open without watching the snake and I never leave the room, but I did something very stupid and that is that I fell asleep with the boa's cage open. I've tooken the snake's off of the desk and the new cage I got is not glass that can easily be broken. I just posted this to share and to make sure nobody else makes the same mistake that I did.
