Kenny,
I do make snake hooks to sell at reptile shows. So far they have been well recieved. Most are graphite shafted hooks, with tempered stainless steel or aluminum shafted hook parts. Eventually, I hope to offer titanium. So far I have been making smaller hooks about 30 inches long, which works well for small venomous snakes, or for "tailing" larger venomous snakes, by using the second smaller hook instead of your hands. Many folks have found it easy to "steer" a large rattlesnake, or gaboon viper into a cage with a longer hook in the front, and one of the strong shorter hooks on the rear of the snake.
I also make stainless neonate hooks for little new born pygmy rattlesnakes, copperheads, and eyelash vipers, etc. I try to keep the price reasonable, in the $25 to $50 dollar range, for a medium lenght hook, depending on the materials used. So far I make about 30 to 40 hooks a year.
I have not found a good source for the longer graphite shafts for longer hooks, but am looking and will find one eventually. Longer shafted hooks might be a bit more expensive.
I do not make many aluminum shafted hooks at this time, but perhaps in the future. I really like the graphite better, it is light and very strong, and looks attractive.
Some of my hook shapes are a bit radical. Some of the hooks feature a fat "V" shaped hook instead of a "U" shaped hook. The reason for this is that this provides a flat surface for pinning snakes, and the V tends to compress both sides of the snake a bit more, making it more difficult for it to cruise off the hook like they often do in a U shaped hook. There is a good photo of Carl Kauffield in Snakes and Snake Hunting using that type of hook to take a diamondback rattlesnake out of a box. Chuck Hurd and Sal Ricco have those "V" types of my hooks and have said they like them.
I can also build hooks to a custom design. Right now I am building a ginormus U shaped hook for a friend who has many large snakes to work with. It will be an aluminum shafted, double grip stout hook for very large rattlesnakes.
Kenny, send me an EMail at zegelj@bellsouth.net of what you are looking for in a hook, what animals it will be used for, and wether it will be a cage hook, or a field hook, or a combination of both, and the lenght and grip types you want, and I will give you an idea of what I might be able to build for you, and the cost involved. I have four different thickness stainless steel rods to work with, and two different thickness aluminum rods to make the hook part out of. Hopefully, I will be able to build what your are looking for.
Best Regards
JohnZ

Chuck, I gave the snake hook to Cathy and Todd to use as a door prize for the banquet, LOL !
Jessica just happened to have the lucky winning ticket to win that door prize.
I am happy that she lets you use the snake hook though !

Well folks , I've asked him to make me one . I'm sure it will do a good job , and I'll be able to have some pride in it because it's not mass produced , but made by a respected member here . Win win !

Guys John makes some outstanding venomous lock boxes, very sharp, and professional.

Thanks for the kind words. I like building things, and will continue making snake hooks and field boxes, and still hope to have a line of good quality plastic cages in the future. I will never build enough of them to compete with the big, established companies.
I have moved to a rental house, and am working out of a small shop in the corner of a garage, with not very much working room at the moment. I hope to have a better setup sometime in the near future.
Best Regards JohnZ
