In VA you have two or possibly three venomous snake species. Some field guides show that the Cottonmouth stretches into Eastern Virginia, but since I don't live there, I can't atest to if there easy to find. You do have a good population of Copperheads and Timber Rattlesnakes.

Pends on where ya live in VA. The eastern shore has VERY limited pops of northern coppers but you have to go north of exmore to find them. Apparently fishermans island and surrounding areas have small populations of eastern cottonmouths. In my hometown (tear forming) of hampton I have caught numerous cottons and some as far north as NNews park. THE NORTHERNMOST POP OF CANEBRAKES ANYWHERE exist in Newport news and Hampton. I will not disclose where as the pops are already very small, but they aint timbers. They look like nice GA canes. Timbers are throughout the Mtns from smith mountain lake on up and coppers exist everywhere but are harder to find on the coast. Hope it helps,

Will, I have had the pleasure to herp central Va, and it was loaded with N Coppers and Timbers. We went out at dark, up to 11:00 pm and caught at least 10 Copperheads and 2 timbers, right in the road. I was very surprised of the amount of herps in that area ( blue ridge mountain area! Near UVA. I know of some Cottons in that area, but they have been brought and released, but there is a bunch in one spot. Scott

one of the albino strains of Cottons originates from the dismal swamp in suffolk. If ya have ever herped it you know its full of snakes..... and bugs LOL. Rough terrain but it does pay off.
