Anyone know how to check if a certain type of reptile has been reported to occur in a specific county such as the reports in Herpetological Review in order to determine if you have a new county record? Other than reading each issue to look for it, is there and easier way such as searching electronically?

Adam, you might have to go through a bunch of back issues of Herp Review. They have this on their website:
"Before you submit a manuscript to us, check Censky (1988, Index to Geographic Distribution Records in Herpetological Review: 1967–1986; available from the SSAR Publications Secretary) and other sources to make sure you are not duplicating a previously published record."
It is kind of amazing that the Distribution Records have not been indexed for 22 years !
Another thing to try is a Google Search and put in "Herpetological Review and the Scientific Name" of the animal you are concerned with. Google should bring up all that has been published on that species, including Geographic Distribution.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards JohnZ

That is quite some time to have not updated the list. I know that in the Amphibians and Reptiles of Texas book by Dixon that was published in 2000 there is no record of brown anoles occurring in my county but I found and photographed one in the backyard a few days ago and wonder if any have been reported here since the publishing of that book.

For Texas accounts use Dixon's book. Also the State Museum and the University of Austin keep up to speed records. U of A has a searchable web site for that as well.

Adam--
If possible, you might also try searching for records using an online database such as Zoological Record. This is available in libraries of many universities. I've had good luck using this database for Herp. Review records.
