Craig, you are absolutly right, your post was deleted.
There are several reasons for this.
One, is that it was not necessicary for you to start a name calling match with a 12 year old, simply because Danny expressed that he no longer likes Herpetology.
Why does that make him a "looser" ?
Second, you have not filled out your Profile here. Anything that is posted here by someone who has not filled in their Profile is likely to be deleted by a site manager, as it is a violation of site rules.
Without a filled in Profile, you have no chance of being taken seriously here.
If you wish to continue posting here, you need to get that Profile filled in.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards John Z

Ok my profile is in, exciting as it is.
Apologies if I hurt anyone's feelings, all except dannyb that is. Agree to disagree. I find nothing productive about anyone anywhere that jumps on forums whose topics are not even interesting to them, and then post childish ramblings...in capitals.
Just calling a spade a spade. Why sugarcoat? Sometimes kids need the full monty as others view them....may do more good than harm. Having said that, bogus posters like those rarely even stick around to see the responses anyway.
Just MY opinion though. I still think he/she is pathetic. Sticks and Stones and all that stuff. But I'll keep my hands to myself. I promise. I love this website too much.

By the way, for good measure, I had no idea dannyb was only 12. Never even thought of looking at his profile before I responded. I assumed, apparently correctly, based on his comments.
I hope just because he has a profile doesn't mean we all have to take him seriously?

Craig, Thank for filling in your Profile.
Just for the record, Danny was not a troll who suddenly decided to start flooding the forum.
That type of posting is quickly deleted, and the persons banned from the site.
In this case, Danny was a regular poster at the site for many months, and over that time, he asked many intelligent questions about Herpetology. Folks here were impressed by the enthusiasm that he showed, and are a bit dissapointed in seeing that sudden loss of interest.
As far as Hawaii Zoo, what kind of reptile collection do they have there ? I know that individuals are not permitted to keep snakes in Hawaii, but does the Zoo have a Venomous Collection ? Also, what Island is the Zoo located on ?

John, oddly enough I think the only snake found in any of Hawaii's zoos are brahminy blind snakes.

Wow, that would be incredably restrictive / dumb, if even zoos in Hawaii could not keep snakes to help educate the public.
I guess Hawaii is not a paradise after all.

Aha. Didn't realize that he was a regular. Sorry, I'll move on then and forget about dannyb altogether.
I'm not going to argue with anyone, Honolulu Zoo is lame and has nothing in the way of snakes except for a Hawaiian blind snake, which I find in my garden. They had a Burmese Python for over 25 years, he died in 2005.
But, that is why we need volunteers and I look forward to offering my help, input, and whatever else they need. There must be a way to introduce snakes to the Reptile Center, which houses mostly lizards, turtles, and some Caimans and Gators. Even non-ven for starters would be exciting. Anybody have suggestions besides writing the curators and such? Has anyone been successful in their neck of the woods as it relates to this sort of request? Granted, Hawaii is very unique and may reqire more motivation, but someone has to step up, and I'll be more than glad to do it. Aloha!

Craig, you would first have to research the Game and Fish Laws in Hawaii that ban the importation of snakes.
It is also possible that the restrictions on importing snakes are controlled by something like the Agricultural Department, instead of Game and Fish.
Once you know what the Laws are, then you can try to get them changed. While it is not likely that you will be able to change the laws so that individuals can keep snakes, it is possible that the laws could be changed to allow Zoos to keep snakes. There is presidense for this becuase most States allow Zoos to have snakes.
What you will probably have to do, is find a friendly person in the Legislature who will introduce a bill in your State House or Senate, that will modify the existing law. It is most likely to pass if that Legislator is on the Game and Fish Committee, or Agricultural Committee, etc.
If you can bring in the Curators of the Zoo, to help assure the lawmakers that the snakes will not excape into the wild and become established, it would surely help. One way to accomplish this is to allow the importation of only single snakes, not in pairs. That way, even if one excaped, it could not reproduce.
You might start some kind of grass roots movement toward this goal. The more people behind you on this, the more likely it will work. Is there a Hawaiian Herpetological Society ? If not, you should start one.
If it allready exhists, then join it, and try to get them interested in the idea.
If you have the research skills and passion, it is entirely possible that you can change the existing laws.
Keep us informed here as to what you find after you research the current laws.
Best Regards John Z

I certainly will keep all informed. Writing my first letter tonight after dinner. Wish me luck. Some real hard-head go-with-the-flow cronies here in Hawaii - need to break the barrier.
