This spring a friend and myself want to photograph cottons in the wild and we want them to be from Va. Does anyone from Va have any good spots that we could have a nice chance to find one. G Doss Nelson Co, Va

You could try the freshwater ponds and creeks around Sandbridge, Virginia or you could try along the edges of the Dismal Swamp. I have personally seen Cottonmouths at Sandbridge (south of Virginia Beach) and at the Seashore State Park in northeastern Virginia Beach. I never did find any in the Dismal although, at the time I was hunting there, all of the field guides agreed that they could not be found north of the Dismal.
Good Luck,

They can be found in the hampton creek (hampton Va) and there is a small populations in Newport News state part. Joe Mitchell documented these I believe.
