I especially liked that one episode were mark was bitten several times by the actractaspis. Was that staged? Or that one episode were that one fellow in O'shea's group was bitten by the mamba-de-negro. Are you suggesting that was fake too? Damn! Now I'll have to go back to watching Paula Abdul on medication doing Amercan Idol. At least that's real..... right?

"Guys all the shots are staged, all the way back to corwin, irwin etc,"
Not for nothing, but O'Shea and Austin Stevens were doing TV quite abit before Corwin or Irwin. There were quite afew before either of them. Most of the earlier TV shows I remember seeing, before AP picked them all up, were with O'Shea and Stevens.
Neither are new to TV or to the herp world. They just weren't marketable at first because they didn't have a zoo given to them or were blessed with Corwin's looks or personality. Out of the lot of them, I'd say O'Shea was probably the one who staged the least. Not saying he didn't cuz most do at times, but definitely less than the others.

The reptile show that I liked best, was the Harry Butler series from Australia called "In the Wild."
It aired in the late 1970's and early 1980's.
Sure wish someone would find those old shows, and bring them back.
A few of us old codgers here probably remember the series.

Phew.....I feel much better knowing that there's plenty of folks older than me:-) If you can find some clips of that 70's wildlife series, I'd love to get some copies.

Randal and Rob,
I found a short clip from "In the Wild with Harry Butler"
Check it out at:
http://australianscreen.com.au/titles/harry-butler-lake-argyle/clip2/
Most of his shows were a lot more exciting, as he would often catch elapids by hand, and always had a lot of natural history information to go along with the shows.
Apparently, the entire series of shows are available in a long out of print video DVD series. I am trying to locate them at various bookstores in Australia.
Best Regards John Z

Todd, just how old do you think we are, LOL ???
Frank Buck, "bring 'em back alive" died in 1950, about 5 years before I was born. I have seen old black and white film clips of him collecting animals though.
I also remember the Howard Hawks movie starring John Wayne, from 1964 called Hatari! This film was loosley based on the adventures of Frank Buck capturing animals in Africa.
I am old enough though to remember visiting Ross Allen on several occasions in the 1970's, at his Reptile Institute at Silver Springs, Florida.
Also, in the 1970's, I remember visiting with Bill Haast at the Miami Serpentarium, and Louis Porras at The Shed in Miami, and with Denny Seabolt at the Snakeatorium near Panama City.
Best Regards John Z

Sorry, Marlon Perkins is about as far back as I can remember. I actually used to think that Omaha Nebraska was actually "Mutual of Omaha, Nebraska".
