How can I set up a business (in Texas) to house venomous snakes and collect the venom for sale to labs?

You probably can’t. The need for snake venom in research and medicine is miniscule compared to the number of people who want to start this business. Additionally, the equipment needed to properly collect and prepare the venom (not to mention the large number of snakes that you would need in order to get sufficient quantities of venom) would be prohibitively expensive for most of us. There are a handful of professionals that have been doing this since the beginning; they have a corner on the market.

I love the FAQ.
It allowed me to cut and paste the answer and spend just as little time answering the question as they did in filling out their profile and still all of the information I gave is correct and accurate.
Wonderful!

We go through this time and time again.....
Is there not some way to fix the code in the website so that folks will have to fill in the Profile before they are allowed to post ???
Some of the computer programmer / website creator / geek, nerd folks here should be able to answer that. Could be that the bravenet code is so old, out of date / that it is not easy to modify / fix ? Who knows ?
And Josh, you created the FAQ Section for the one person in one hundred that will take the time to find it and appreciate it. The other 99 lazy slobs who do not fill in the profiles, and just ask quick questions, just do not care........ They want a quick "Yahoo" answer because they can not spell Google or Wikipedia!
I often wonder, just who it is out there spreading the rumor that there is money to be made in milking snakes ? Is it a "macho" thing with folks thinking "I could do that," after they watch a show on Discovery or National Geographic, or is something else involved ?
Perhaps there is a nit-whit gene that causes 20 year old college dropouts to want to go out and milk snakes ?
If milking snakes were a quick and easy way to becoming rich, don't they realise that all of the folks here would be doing it instead of our day jobs ?
There are a handfull of folks in the Country who milk snakes for a living, and they do it well. They have the market locked up. And they have the equipment and expertise to know how to freeze dry venoms, and market them to researchers, and labs, and pharma companies.
Why do folks think they can compete with that ? It is like saying, they are going to bottle a soft drink, and take on coca cola.
Guess you all can tell I am in a bit of a mood today, LOL !
I think I will blame it on Hannah the hurricane, as I like the name...........

The problem is not laziness, but poor layout of the site for newcomers... I simply signed up, was not required to fill out a profile, or even informed that it was important to anyone, and clicked the top link on the page which was "ask the experts"...
If you would like assistance in requiring complete profiles and/or suggesting the FAQ before allowing the posting of questions, I would be happy to help...
That's what I do for a living.
In the mean time, I apologize for annoying you and appreciate your prompt and initially polite response.
Sincerely,
James :-)

James, Thank you for taking the time to fill in your Profile, and in pointig out why you did not think it was important to fill it in. That is helpfull to us.
The real issue it this. People come here from all over the world, and of all ages and experience levels.
The answer to someone who is 44 years old, with venomous snake keeping experience, will be different than the answer to a 10 year old with no venomous snake keeping experience.
Folks answer questions here because they think that helping educate folks about reptiles is important.
But we also get the same questions over and over, and at times it gets frustrating, because a lot of that could be prevented with small fixes to the web site itself. Things like changing the programing some could make a big difference, in that we would not be talking with an annonomous person.
That would not only help the person asking the question to get an answer that was appropriate, but it would also help us.
Hopefully, the question about venom extraction was answered for you. About the only way someone would be able to break into the field, would be for them to work for someone like the Kentucky Reptile Zoo, or George VanHorn, or Bill Hasst, then, after a lot of on the job training for many years, they might be able to start something on their own.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards John Z

Unbelievable....I always thought that no question should be a stupid question. Or at least you shouldn't get hammered for it.
Hopefully one day scientists can break down all this snake venom and maybe create a better chill pill. :O>
