So were the snakes illegal or does their simple presence male for usual sensationalized reporting? I mean, if no snakes were in the house, this might not even make news anymore, but add ‘exotics’ to the mix and media is all over it.

Homicide scene full of snakes

Published January 17, 2009
The scene of Thursday morning’s homicide in the Royal Forest Subdivision of Comal County proved to be a dangerous one for sheriff’s deputies and investigators.
Comal County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene around 2 a.m. Thursday after receiving a 911 call from April Wyne Diaz, 24, who said she had shot her stepfather, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Mark Reynolds said.
When deputies arrived, they found Randall Troy Bryson, 46, dead in the house with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, allegedly from a .22-caliber rifle, Reynolds said.
Searching the house, Detective Sgt. Tommy Ward said deputies also found several snakes.
“There were snakes everywhere,” Ward said. “There were numerous snake cases.”
Ward said he could not identify the snakes but that there were reports of live rattlesnakes being kept in the house.
Reynolds said some of the cases were empty and that one deputy on scene reported hearing rattling in the house.
According to the Comal County Appraisal District, the home located at the address — 1650 Castleway Road — is a 1,456-square-foot mobile home built in 1989. The property is listed as being jointly owned by Bryson and Diaz.
Sheriff’s investigators still are looking into the homicide. Diaz was charged with murder and as of late Friday remained in the Comal County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 bond.

"So were the snakes illegal or does their simple presence male for usual sensationalized reporting?"
The rattlesnakes in Texas were most likely legal.
And their simple presence probably did cause sensationalized reporting.
"the home located at the address is a mobile home"
Need we say more ?
"When deputies arrived, they found Bryson, 46, dead in the house with multiple gunshot wounds to the head from a .22-caliber rifle"
Do you think she kept shooting him because he kept twitching, or, was she just having fun ?
Searching the house, Detective Sgt. Tommy Ward said deputies also found several snakes.
“There were snakes everywhere,” Ward said. “There were numerous snake cases.” Searching the house, Detective Sgt. Tommy Ward said deputies also found several snakes.
It is interesting that "snakes everywhere," and "several snakes" now mean the same thing, LOL.
Anyone think that Sgt. Ward was playing it up for the cameras ???
Best Regards

Yeah, seems like news tried hard to put a TX redneck spin to it. The only important piece of info that is missing is whether the mobile home had wheels still attached to it or not.

I would rather this not devolve into the denegration of the populace of a whole state please.
Comment about the article.
Comment about the people in it.
Comment about the press.
But there is no need to be rude about anyone else just because they live in a trailer or Texas or anything else that you feel it is safe to look down on from the comfort of your living room.
This is a public forum open to the viewing public from the whole world. Please act like civilized adults here.

karl,u r missign the whole point of our exchange here.
It was the press who turned it into a redneck issue, we just noticed it and decided to make sarcastic comments about it. It is murder for gods sake, who cares if it was a mobile home and which year it was built!

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree with your assessment of the situation.
If you check the source of the article, you will see that it is not the New York Times or USA Today. It is a local newspaper that serves New Braunfels and Comal County. It is a COUNTY NEWSPAPER!!
They did not make it a redneck issue.
That the newspaper's vast constituency is made up of people who live in a part of the country where mobile homes are a huge step up from living in the home where they grew up is evident to anyone who has ever driven through there.
That is the part of the country that it occurred in!
Looking down our noses at these people does not say a thing at all about them!
It does, however, say a lot about us!
I would rather it not be said here.
I stand by assessment above.
