Yes, .22 doesn't have much stopping power , especially from far away. On the other hand, if u use big caliber at close range (like in the house) it might just go thru the subject/victim and hit what ever is behind the subject (kid, animal, etc…)
My fav cal is .45, but I think for all general purpose reasons, when u don’t know what you might be dealing with, I would got with 9mm or .357, but learn how to use it

I get what Z was saying. the part about the trailer was not resolvent to the story. you do not have to be from NY to try to ridicule red necks. trust me, being from southwest VA, deep in the heart of Appalachia, i know people from the area, that do not live in trailers, wish to degrade their neighbors that do. Z was making the observation that the mention of snakes and trailers was an attempt by the writer to separate their community from this type of person. i grew up in a trailer, many of my family, still back in VA, lives in them still today. its my culture and i am fine with it. i never feel insulted by red neck or trailer trash. its probably something akin to other cross sections using words attended to be degrading to describe themselves.

I know it has been 4 1/2 years, but it is still fresh in our hearts. My brother did not live in a mobile home because he was poor or a redneck. He actually sold a $200,000 home in San Antonio to buy the land and mobile home out there. He was a Christian and liked the simple things in life. The woman that MURDERED him was his step-niece that was being paid to take care of him because he was a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down. He had minimal use of his arms and hands, and the one thing he knew A LOT about was snakes. So, he bred and sold snakes and YES, he did have all of the necessary permits. She shot him nine times in the head with a .22 rifle at close range while he laid defenseless in bed. She went & tried to burn her bloody clothes at the back of the property, took a shower and THEN called 911.
