Maryland protects Crotalus horridus, thus requiring a permit.
"poisonous snakes" as it is so eloquently put(families included are Hydrophidae, Elapidae, Viperidae or Crotalidae(what's that?)) and crocodilians can not be kept as houshold pets and can only be imported or sold to a zoo, park, museum, medical facility or educational facility for their associated purposes.
This is where it gets weird. Copperheads may be legally obtained (wc, cb, imported) in Maryland, with no reference to native or exotic Agkistrodon specifically, but more than four specimens require a permit.
