There are extremely few cases of kids being killed by large constrictors in the USA,
http://www.rexano.org//Education.htm
but I cant remember any (recent) US case where the kid was eaten. Nice touch to have a pic of Ball python to go with this story;0)

UPDATE: Missing Snake Located
SLO PD Press Release:
The Police Department continued to search for the python, with the assistance of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Team. At approximately 1:15 PM, Search and Rescue Team members Glenn SPARKS and Joe CALGAGNO located a track on the ground and followed it to find the missing snake, which was stretched out basking in the sun in the backyard of a home in the 200 block of Foothill Blvd. The snake’s owner was summoned and he retrieved his pet. The successful volunteer efforts of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue Team are very much appreciated!
San Luis Obispo, CA-- Residents living near the 200 block of Ramona St in the City of San Luis Obispo, are being asked to keep a close eye on their pets and small children. According to police a 130 pound python is on the loose.
The orange, 23-foot long reticulated Python was last seen Sunday night around 10 p.m.
The snake is domesticated but police along with County Animal Control workers are urging people to keep their pets and small children inside. Snakes of this size have been known to eat pets and small children.
The Police Department is continuing the search and the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department is deploying Search and Rescue personnel to assist in the effort. Anybody who sees the snake is asked to call 911. Citizens should keep their distance and not try to capture the reptile.

The owner of that retic should be charged with reckless endangerment, and not be allowed to keep snakes anymore.

John I would say you nailed that one right on the head.
Pet ownership, regardless of the species, is a privilege. Irresponsible behavior like this results in that privilege being revoked.
Dog owners are responsible for keeping their animals on leashes and can be fined if the animal gets loose. If that retic had killed a child or pet the owner could (and should) have been sued.

Tell my neighbors the deal about keeping their dogs put up, or at least on leashes. At least 7 times in the past 6 months, I have walked out into my yard and got chased right back in the door by 5 Pit Bulls that roam this neighborhood. Now Leash Laws are all and good but, when you live in the county it dose you no good. People in this country wont to put a ban on Exotic Venomous & Non-Venomous Reptiles, when the most dangerous thing you could imagine walks through their yards every day. Sometimes I wonder if folks actually have the brains to know that Reptile Keepers do not let their Mambas, Vipers & Pythons roam the neighborhood Biting Kids, Killing Cats & Small Dogs just for the sake that they can.
Now, I have called Limestone Co., Alabama's Finest quit a few times on this dog problem and all I get is keep a gun on you when you leave your front door "NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY THAT EITHER". You all know that if I listen to this keep a gun advice, the first dog I shoot would be my last if the USHS got wind of it.
It is absolutely ridiculous, like living in a War Zone. I am actually afraid to take my little boy outside to play in the yard.

Wally, I would not tolerate wandering pit bull dogs coming into my yard and threatning me or my kids, if I had kids.
People have a responsibility to keep up with their pets, especially if those pets are dangerous.
Pit bull dogs do not have to be that way, I have helped raise them in the past. It is some of the owners of them that need to be spayed and neutered.
Where I used to live, the neighbors half wild almost feral cat kept coming into my yard and killing song birds at my bird feeder. For some strange reason, that cat died of a snakebite. Must have been a copperhead. Copperheads are fairly common around these parts.
Best Regards

Wally,
Maybe it's just an "inside the city limits" thing or something. I had the police called on me at my apartment complex because I let my puppy off the leash to play fetch...Of course I do live in the city limits. I guess leash laws are different everywhere.
As far as those annoying dogs; if the owners can't be reasoned with I would try a pellet gun. If that doesn't work... Sam Colt...
Or borrow one of John's Copperheads... ;-)

Is anybody going to write a letter to editor, agree that owner was not responsible, say it is not a norm to let your retic sun on the grass in public, and ask news to produce an evidence of the kid EATING pythons in USA?
Sorry , but I will not be writing all the letters to editor myself, after u write it, feeel free to discuss the fashionable dog collars;-)

OK, now we can talk fashionable dog collars’. If u see a Doberman or wolf hybrid in NV with tiger striped collar, it might be mine;-)
But it would have to be behind chainlink electrified fence, with electric pole inside the compound it and the yellow metal sign attached to the pole. The sign has a picture of rattlesnake that says : Dead end
