"the worst that can happen if i get bitten by a death adder? i die. no big deal. we all go sometime and i would rather go via death adder than sitting on bedsores in the geriatric ward with tubes up my nose. i have no family, live alone, am over 50, so it makes no difference. should i die, i will have left clear, precise instructions on the cage and in the snake room re: whom to call so that the snake may be removed calmly and correctly with no harm done to the adder.
life itself is much more unforgiving than any death adder"
Not to be rude, but that was the most BS response ive ever heard. You would think being 50 years old, you'd have a little more common sense.
What happens if you get nailed, collapse in shock, and the snake is left to survive in a room < that is if you have the snake in a secured room> untill someone checks on you or worse, checks on you and they too get bit by the scared snake.
or sense you live alone, what if you keep the snake in you living room, and collapse from a bite? How sure are you that the adder can't get out and bite your neighbors???
Also, i don't feel that you should have the right to decide on something that will potentially keep me from caring for hots, when you die from one.
Bites somethimes do happen, but its your attitude on the situation that worries me. For being 50, and caring for herps and all that jazz, you need to wake up and grow up.

"and my financial situation is none of your affair"
It seems to me that it was a logical question, seeing that you openly said a disrespectful comment about all of us and the community in whole.
Secondly, it wasn't asked for no reason, it was in regards to the 2000 dollars a vial comment. You are putting us all at risk, so in a way it is our affairs when you risk our hobby.

i stand by my profile's statement. it is precisely because i do not drink, do drugs, show off, or brazenly freehandle hots that i am a good candidate for owning them if i so choose. how many on this list can say they indulge in none of the aforementioned activities? shall we administer truth serum and take a poll?
drinking and drugging is unsavory with or without hot herps. you miss the point.

Why is it that everytime someone comes and ask for advice it's usually taken with attitude? Charles and others took their time to give you their opinion. You didn't like what was said.

i simply asked for an opinion and got quickly attacked for wanting to pursue the very interest which my attackers hold so dear. where is the logic in that?

I think this thread is done.
Jay, you have an interesting posting history.
You got your question answered and it has now devolved into a battle about life choices.
This is the second "first hot" that you have asked about here that seems specifically designed to raise questions and "get people going."
You can email the people who responded with specific Acanthophis information offline for further info.
Most of them have their email addresses in their profile.
By the way, the year of the snake was NOT 50 years ago.
To everyone else, I again caution you about checking who you respond to. This person's profile warns "you will get bitten and make the whole herp community suffer, animals included" and then in the thread they say "the worst that can happen if i get bitten by a death adder? i die. no big deal."
And you are arguing/reasoning with this person.
Go read a book, or go snake hunting, or wash your hair. This is just a waste of time.

To be honest this is the only site that an advice thread goes left almost every time.I love this site and wish it would go better most of the time .Some of the best keepers in the world post here. The fact is some do not know how to give advice and some can not take it.But lets be honest not everyone here has antivenom not everyone has insurance but everyone here loves there snakes.I try to look for positive attributes not negative. If you post here as an expert who is to say you are you me the moderators the fact is no one does but you.We are all mentors to those who ask questions we suggest not demand. All I ask is just think about this when posting.
