This fall's show in Columbia SC should be a good one, as long as it's not the same weekend as the texas show....there were at least 15 to 20 hot vendors at the june show...no 09' rattlers, as they are usually born in september, but there should be plenty at the fall show....i'm sure rattlers are born sooner, but by the time they shed and are feeding it is usually closer to fall...pigmies are often born much earlier, and Paul had baby EDBs born in late july, but again it will still be september before their ready to be sold....this all based on the fact that the breeders get their babies to eat at least 3 times before selling...the fall show is perfect for baby rattlers and pretty much any other hot.... i have always considered the fall Columbia show as my favorite of the year and i've been to Daytona and Hamburg....i would like to attend the F.I.R.E show down in FL once to see what it's like, but there wasn't alot of hot vendors when Daytona had venomous...
Anyone that wants to attend a Columbia show should definitely do the fall show....not that the others are bad, but all the new babies are ready to go by october and have fed several times....spring and summer shows are better for picking up last years babies...

Jamie, no need to rush to the Florida FIRE show as it usually has only a couple venomous dealers there. Usually it is Glades, Diamond Reptile and maybe one other. I walked the whole show and left in 30 minutes. I was dissapointed. I have tried to talk ReptiCon into a Florida venomous show but to no avail.
Texas is too far to attend from Florida for me, no offense Randal, I have heard it is a great show. Just that drive is a killer one from here.

I will never go back to the SC show as a vendor. The last few times I went I ended up losing money. Most of the locals do not have the resources to pay for anything over $50. It's hard to compete with wild caught cottonmouths and copperheads that are sold for $5 each. I go to Hamburg usually once/year in the fall after the ratlsnakes have dropped. The upcoming October show I should have 30 + CB rattlesnakes from 6 different species.

Craven, you make a good point about the cheap wild caught animals that are sold at Columbia. And, you make a good point about the folks who live around Columbia not spending much.
However, that show attracts herpers from many of the southern states. Those folks drive long distances to that show from Arkansas, and Missouri, West Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, etc.
While I have lost money at the last two Columbia shows also, I attribute that more to the bad economy and large number of out of work folks. I am hoping that the situation will improve, and that those herpers from other states will eventually start spending money at that show again.
Best Regards

I plan on picking up a few things at the November SC show. I dont really like seeing the vendors there that scour the woods for copperheads and cottons and sell them for 5 bucks. id rather buy a quality captive bred animal and spend little more anyways. Its not just SC locals at the show, I drive from ATL Georgia

i have had people from the west coast buy my CB copperheads and canebrakes at the fall Columbia shows...i believe people come from all over the country for the fall show....
and what people sell is their business, as long as it's legal...if you do not like what a dealer is doing or selling don't buy from them...alot of the imported stuff is wild caught, you just pay more because it was imported into this country...
