Cobra on the loose at Del Cerro condo complex
Posted: Oct 21, 2009 12:01 PM PDT Updated: Oct 21, 2009 12:16 PM PDT
Residents at some local condos are on edge after learning one of the deadliest snakes in the world could be on the loose.
Warning signs were posted telling neighbors in Del Cerro a king cobra escaped from its owner at the Adobe Falls condo complex in the 5400 block of Adobe Falls Road.
County animal control officers are searching the area for the snake. They have not been able to find the owner.
King cobras are known as the world's largest venomous snakes. Keeping them as pets is illegal.
The question is who keeps such a dangerous snake as a pet?
In this video report, Adrienne Moore has more details.

Despite what some TV stations are reporting, animal services officials don't think there's a cobra on the loose.
San Diego County Animal Services said they were alerted several weeks ago after somebody posted a sign at an apartment complex in Del Cerro near the intersection of Adobe Falls and Waring roads, warning residents that a baby king cobra was missing. Investigators went out but were unable to locate any evidence of the reportedly missing reptile.
Officials said that because there was no callback information available on the sign, they suspect the incident is a hoax.
The king cobra is the world's largest venomous snake, according to the Brittanica.com, and typically grows to 12 feet, though the biggest specimen on record was 18 feet.

Yep, sounds like a hoax again.
But, that will not keep the morons in the news papers and TV news from reporting it as if it was real.
And folks will believe it, because they saw it on the news, or, in the paper.
